The last time I’d spoken to him, he told me he was looking for work and trying to get his life on track. When his lawyer Paul Prestia told me that he’d taken his own life, I cried for hours. Yes, Kalief committed suicide. But the State’s bloody hands were all over this tragedy. Like Kalief, 80% of the people in American jails are incarcerated simply because they don’t have the money to be free. This is evil. Rest In Peace to Kalief and his beloved mother, who died of a broken heart. Love and strength to his brother Akeem, who continues to fight for justice. Break the system. Fuck they laws. We will win. - #regrann
