@lavernecox : Feeling empowered in my body and my sexuality is not a done deal. It's a practice. I cried reading about @beyonce making peace with her FUPA because though I have not had twins (that would be a miracle of modern science) my body is constantly changing in ways I can't always control as I get older. It's not always easy for me to make peace with my changing metabolism. I pray for that self acceptance today and as I do I feel it washing over me. This is the daily practice. I can do this throughout the day. Even as I aspire, in this moment I must accept. This is a spiritual practice. ....................................................................................... As much as I engage in critically interrogating the ideas of the ways I am "supposed" to look, sometimes those ideas seep in. As a trans woman I have fought for bodily autonomy and self determination. As I have done that, I know that that fight doesn't happen in a vacuum. I constantly have to lovingly interrogate what I have internalized. As cute as I am, folks are constantly picking me apart as a trans woman of color and now as a public figure. So sometimes a girl has to put on a Beyonce classic, slip into a @chromat monokini and remind herself in the mirror that she is sexy at every weight and age, in her transness, her blackness, her black womanness, her humanness. It's a practice. Practice makes perfectly imperfect. #TransIsBeautiful
