@lavernecox : #flashbackfriday to 2017 at the Creative Arts Emmys. I still love this dress so much. But this post isn't about the dress. ... When I got my second Emmy nomination in 2017, I quite honestly had this anxiety attack that flooded my nervous system and made it hard for me to function for weeks. But trust I functioned and got ish done. It was just more challenging. My nervous system was just on overload. My physical body was just overwhelmed so much more so than the first time I was nominated. I am still so grateful to you @uzoaduba for reminding me that these things are above my pay grade and I can turn it over to my higher power. That was so helpful. After my conversation with @brenebrown last week I was reminded that joy is the most difficult emotion to feel and experience. I was reminded that the active practice of gratitude (not an attitude of gratitude) but an active daily practice of gratitude allows us to be able to lean into joy. I was reminded that leaning into vulnerability (uncertainty, risk and emotional exposure as Brene Brown defines it) allows us to experience joy more fully. Thank you to all my fellow artists who thought my work was Emmy worthy. I am still insanely humbled by that. I have the utmost respect for what we do as actors. I love my fellow actors so very much. I love you all!!! ... For all the dream seekers out there, when the time comes that your dreams are coming true it may feel completely overwhelming, even though it's what you've always wanted and worked so hard for. Turning it over to a higher power and giving them the credit and an active daily practice of gratitude might help your nervous system be able to more fully RECEIVE the blessing. ... Side note: I am still the ONLY openly trans person to be nominated for a prime time acting Emmy. But I have a feeling this year I will no longer be the only one. I am so very excited about this possibility. ... #TransIsBeautiful #fbf
