My good friend Dr. Mark Pochapin, the Vice-Chair for Clinical Affairs at NYU Langone, (and Jay’s doctor when he was sick) is one of the many healthcare professionals around the country who is on the front lines of the coronavirus outbreak. Until recently, Mark was responsible for gathering physicians from different areas of expertise to help and care for patients that have COVID-19, a disease that he says "we're learning about in real-time." New York City has the most confirmed cases in the country, with 106,763 positive tests and 7,349 deaths as of April 13, according to a tracker maintained by researchers at Johns Hopkins University. It took over 30 years but I found my way back to @vans, the original skate shoe. My sincerest thanks to Lakai for all of the unforgettable revs over the last few years. I remember my first pair of Vans that I incessantly bugged my dad for at age 11, and then eventually convinced him to buy the “ankle guard” accessory (before high tops existed). I wore them until I literally burned through to my toenails doing kneeslides... and then applied duct tape just to wear them some more. I continued to wear the brand in my formative years (which are well documented), including being the odd-man-out in Search For Chin as everyone else wore Jordans. Thanks to Vans for keeping the core of skating alive through the decades by way of team projects, Grosso’s Love Letters, groundbreaking videos, stellar events, legacy skateparks and [most recently] “Foot The Bill” program benefiting struggling skate shops. #Repost @thefeelgoodkitchen ・・・ Everyday Magic Beans (How-to video in my highlights✨ Makes approximately 5 cups (925 g) or the equivalent of three 15-ounce (425g) cans of beans Ingredients: 1 pound dried beans, (optionally soaked) rinsed and drained 1-3 teaspoon kosher sea salt 3x1 inch strip kombu ½ onion, peeled and root end trimmed 2 to 6 garlic cloves, smashed and peeled 1 to 2 bay leaves Herbs or spices (optional) Directions: Place your beans in a heavy pot with a lid. Fill the pot with enough water to cover the beans by two inches and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Skim off any foam that comes up to the surface. Lower the heat to keep the beans at a gentle simmer. Add one teaspoon salt of the beans have been soaked in salted water. If not, add 2 to 3 teaspoons to taste. Add the kombu, onion, garlic, bay leaf, and any other seasonings you might enjoy. Be aware that adding any acid, such as vinegar or tomatoes, will toughen the beans and is not recommended until the end of the cooking process. Leave the lid off for firmer beans to use in salads and pasta dishes. If you want creamier beans for dips, creamy soups, curries, and burritos, cover the pot with the lid slightly ajar. Check on the beans periodically. Add more water if needed during cooking to make sure the beans stay immersed. Give them a stir every once in a while to help them cook evenly and to make sure they don’t stick to the bottom. Continue simmering the beans until they are as tender as you like. Remove the onion half. Add more salt to taste, if needed. Serve immediately, refrigerate for up to five days, or freeze in an airtight container for up to six months. If you like, you can add hearty herbs or spices before cooking. Delicate fresh herbs can be chopped and stirred into the beans just before serving or used as a garnish. Some examples of what to use: Hearty or Dried Herbs: fresh rosemary, oregano, or thyme; any dried herbs or herb blends, such as herbes de Provence or Itali

So many of us are involved with charity during this pandemic. That’s commendable and beautiful and right. What the pandemic has also shown us is that our charity is only a bandaid on a cancerous economic system. If this system was economically just. If we had universal healthcare, living wages, childcare, racial justice, and guaranteed food and shelter, we wouldn’t have this mad scramble to raise funds for the people in need. We wouldn’t have this level of death and suffering in the richest nation in world. We would be safe to weather out this storm more equally, together. Now, the inequality inherent in our economic system is laid bare. Brown people, and the poor, and working poor suffering the greatest losses. There is truly enough for all. But not when so much is hoarded by so few. The religious prophets we are honoring at this time knew this. They fought and died for it in one way or another. Let’s hope and pray there is a moral resurrection in this triple holy season brought on by the collapse and disruption of COVID-19. Funny that Jesus fought against an unjust empire. The virus itself is a crown. The virus is showing us how wrong we have it now morally, economically and spiritually. Happy Easter, Ramadan, and Passover to all.

#Nationalsiblingsday Olive and Frankie, my girls, we play “Don’t step on in it” by @hasbro it’s the best game! It’s blindfolded with fake dog poop and you can’t see and you have to not step in the poop! I bought it the other day and it was a wonderful addition to our gaming arsenal! My heart is soaring with all siblings today. There is simply no relationship like it. My daughters are the thing that truly is number one. Number one for fun. And number one for each other. I get out of the way at times so they can grow together! We cultivate the garden of sisterhood. What an amazing part of life I never knew i would experience! Single kid myself. And now I make it about their safe and joyful journey. I’m so happy for them to thrive. The way only siblings can. I’m lucky to be apart of this. My favorite chapter of life! My kids!
