“We’re all just walking each other home.” — One of my favorite quotes and the one that led me to Ram Dass as one of my great spiritual teachers. This is what I love about aligning with Spirit: going where you feel the love, leaning into the light. His writing and essence has been calling more and more to me over the past couple of years, even in dreams, so much that I felt drawn to be a part of a @loveserveremember retreat in Ojai this year. It was Halloween and Ram Dass appeared wearing a rabbit mask and when questioned about it he reminded us “Every day is Halloween.” These bodies we wear only temporarily, but our Soul, Oneness, the God Source is eternal and infinite. We sat in meditation with him and the mantra he chanted with/for us all was “I am Loving Awareness” which I invite you to practice yourself this week. Towed this absolutely adorable @airstream.nest to a beach campsite to get some outdoor time with my boys and my people. Too often this time of year can become all about the “doing,” so I find it becomes extra important to take time for the “being.” Being in nature, being with family, being present while you’re driving or working or shopping. That’s a gift we can give to ourselves every single day, not just of the holiday season, but year round. And we’re simultaneously gifting the people around us, because when we’re conscious, we’re not projecting our stress and overwhelm our into the world and onto the people we’re interacting with. We can show up as a fully present version of ourselves: open, compassionate, available for connection. I’ve returned from the wilderness. The hike was glorious. The weather was perfect. The people were kind and funny and inspiring. We climbed Mt. Eddy and backpacked 20+ miles on the PCT with everything we needed on our backs. Still saying goodbye to this beautiful experience. One of the things I find so interesting is that people have questions and worry and wonder about how actors learn all our lines. Here’s my process: I don’t learn them. I learn my character’s emotional journey and then the lines exist because they have to and I say them because I need to. The situation the writer creates for my character gives rise to the thoughts which give rise to the emotion which gives rise to what I need to say. Or not say. There are many lines in a play that aren’t on the page and that you’ll never hear, but they’re just as real to me as the words you do hear. I really love getting immersed in this process of discovery, it always feels like a grand adventure to me. And I miss being on stage with these talented and generous actors already. Recent hikes with dogs and humans I love, in a park I love, in a city I love. Every time I see any significant swath of green space in a big city, I feel so grateful that someone stood up for nature. That somebody fought for that piece of green to exist in a city where land is so expensive that developers want to build on every square inch of it to maximize their profit. Open space is so important. We’re part of Nature, not at war with it, not here to take advantage of it. The earth holds us and we are invited to hold her high in return; relationships require reciprocity, an exchange, a mutuality. Hi:) I haven’t been on Instagram much, because the amazing thing about prepping a play is how quickly an entire day can disappear inside a dark theater and how much you can grow in those slices of disappeared time. It’s opening night (link in bio). The process has been joyful and hard and confrontational and humbling. It’s challenged me to connect — to my cast, to a story, to a character, to an audience, to myself. I feel certain that this show has come into my life for a reason and I keep reminding myself to focus on the journey and stay present for whatever it’s meant to reveal to me. This is one of Finn’s best friends from preschool and even though they hadn’t seen each other in a year, they embraced and fell right back into the easy rhythm they’ve always had together. It’s that way, isn’t it, when you find your people? The time between visits falls away as your hearts immediately link back into a happy alignment and you just enjoy one another again... Hands down, the best part of the morning adventures (aside from our snazzy coordinated holiday socks) was the treasure hunt my parents pulled together for the boys! There were clues on scrolls, a proper pirate map, and the whole thing culminated in the kids literally using shovels to dig up treasures buried under chalk X’s in the backyard. I mean... my parents are freakin’ superheroes!!! I’m so grateful they help make my boys’ childhoods magical, memorable, special and full of whimsy. Thanks, Nana & Poppy. 😘

So much beauty in a Christmas morning. So many memories, old and new, layered and blended and lost and found. My boys were with me for the holiday this year, which was gloriously sweet and made it feel precious and fleeting. My 91-year old grandmother was with us, which felt delicate, the experience held so briefly in the palm of a hand. There were snowman marshmallows, a tiny Christmas village I remember from my own childhood, lovely little presents that the boys will forget in only a few weeks, a FaceTime too-quick conversation with far-away relatives who were missed today, thoughts of everyone who can’t be with their people today for all the difficult and heart-breaking reasons, family dynamics, sugar cookies, chaos, love, confusion and at the end of the day, a deep breath of gratitude for the tiny slice of just being human together that today allowed us. Every single person involved made the effort to show up in positivity and gave their best daily though some challenging conditions. —- Also, working in Canada and running into both the cast and the production team of a movie I shot in Mexico this past spring proved to me how much of a global industry we have truly become. 🤣 It also reconfirmed that Sutton Place continues to function as the Hollywood of the north and I was pretty excited about all the people I ran into in the elevator (you know who you are! I believe that being a good parent is about being willing to see our children, as they truly are, and help them become the brightest, most expanded version of that energy that they can possibly embody. It’s about learning to deal with our own emotions and stress level in a healthy way, so we can model those life skills for the little people around us. That’s hard work!! I fail, I succeed, I fail again, but the important thing is the trying. There’s the trying, there’s the apologizing, there’s the starting anew. I want my children to see all the parts of this process, to let them see me mess up and let them see me take responsibility for my words or actions, and then let them see me return to joy and love with them again and again. Nature is always my go-to for family activities, but we took a chance on the Moxi Museum in Santa Barbara and loved it! It was inexpensive, beautifully designed, offered lots of creative options and was interesting for adults as well as kids. It can be tough to find family activities that are fun for all of us (to give you an idea, I find amusement parks completely overwhelming!) so I was delighted to find this little gem of a children’s museum — and so were the boys, as you can see from the giant smiles on their faces :)

End of camp week. I love these two souls with every single piece of my heart. Dash = rock band camp where he made his own one-string guitar with the help of an incredible teacher. Finn = art camp, where he knit his own “knight belt” and woodworked an amazing shield (note his design using the four elements - this kid is so freakin cool!!) 1. I like this photo my cousin @kailajo took of me in Costa Rica last week. I look relaxed. 2. This photo does not accurately represent today, but I wish it did, so I’m currently pretending I’m back there right now. Ahhhhhh... 🌴 3. My day involved my catalytic convertor being stolen out from under my ancient Prius FOR THE 2nd TIME in a year, my fighting kids, full-time momming, urgent career deadlines, some extreme LA heat, and okay Mercury retrograde, I get it, you’re on your way, I always feel you early and I’m taking your lesson! 4. The lesson is that it’s okay to feel frustrated and overwhelmed. The next-level-up lesson is that we always have the power to CHOOSE how that fire energy gets released into the environment around us. Let’s channel it into focused and deliberate actions and not let it blow up on the people around us (usually our nearest and dearest, ammiright?). My BIG takeaway lately has been all about Solving The Problem At Hand, without letting emotions or fears run the show. 5.. Hey, you know what’s really great timing? Oprah & Deepak’s free 21-day meditation course. Could not have come at a better time and I’m seriously considering becoming a meditation teacher because I believe in the power of this practice so deeply. I’m gonna put the link in my bio. 6. When there’s a carnival on set and your kids get to come visit!! My little one keeps asking when he can go back and I keep explaining to him that it doesn’t exist anymore. Location sets are like a traveling circus... here one day, gone the next. Getting to film in nature is the only thing helping my weary heart this week, and the knowledge that I get to hug my babies this weekend. I’m away from them a lot in my line of work and it makes my stomach hurt to imagine what it would be like to know my children were scared and hurting, without anyone who loves them there to comfort them. People often ask me to recommend acting books or courses and I can honestly say that what has had the greatest impact on me as an actor and as a human is learning to meditate. Learning to listen more closely to God and my soul. Being willing to learn why I do the things I do, and being enthusiastic about doing the work to shift my actions to be more closely aligned with the person I choose to be. Through doing that work, I’ve opened up parts of my soul that I’m no longer afraid to reveal on camera, and have a greater understanding about what makes human beings tick, all of which I get to bring to my characters onscreen. It can still be a struggle, but it’s a worthy one and a practice that I’m committed to, because I know it’s a positive path and that it works. ❤️❤️❤️

Can’t sleep (one of the side effects of making a horror film), so I’m scrolling through photos and feeling grateful for the opportunity to be a storyteller. I’m always humbled to witness the sheer effort and force of will it takes to get one movie made, the number of men and women who give their all to bring someone’s vision to life. Thanks @ghstwrtr @trevorseeley #patriciaharris @zuluimp for bringing me on board. The ride was, at times, insane and sometimes I wanted to get off entirely, but ultimately I’ll look back on this film with a smile and be proud that we weathered the hail, dust, thunderstorms, pulled muscles, ghosts - and fried grasshoppers - to bring this story to the screen.
