Around the third grade, my bestie and I had a company that made and sold homemade, hand cranked ice cream to the neighborhood. It was a smash hit. We only offered one topping, because only one is needed to turn a bowl or a cone into a party: MAGIC SHELL AND NOW YOU CAN MAKE IT AT HOME!!!! (I buried the lede). This recipe has defined my family’s summer—it reminds me of the @dairyqueen dipped cones, but better (😬sacrilege🙈)—and I’ve made it several times a week since it showed up in @nytcooking. Two ingredients, five minutes, and you are the coolest chick on the block. #CandJIceCream🤓🤓🍦#PretendCookingShow #myfavoriterecipemaybeever🤗 . @clarkbar’s Chocolate Shell Ice-Cream Topping (via @nytcooking) Ingredients: 7 ounces chocolate (I like to mix dark and milk, she calls for bittersweet) 2 tablespoons virgin coconut oil . Directions: 1. Chop chocolate. 2. Melt chocolate over a double boiler. 3. Off heat, stir in coconut oil until completely dissolved, about 1 minute. 4. Pour/drizzle over ice cream. Chocolate will harden within seconds. ⭐️ 5. Store any leftovers at room temperature and gently reheat for future hero moments. 🦸🏻♀️ 6. Yum.

If your house has run out of fun here at the end of the summer (Mom, I’m bored 😑) here’s an idea: my kids (plus one crafty nanny 🏆) made little construction paper animals and hid them, taped on walls, all over the house. An 🐊 behind the kitchen sink, a sloth hanging below the tv, a 🐑 in the powder room. They were busy and happy for a long time, and finding the animals is 🤩😊😂. PS. A poem: It is easy to make and heaven to serve, summertime tastes like a berry preserve. Kids home from camp with bellies to feed, a wee bit of time is all that you need. Well, plus raspberries.♥️ And sugar helps, too. 😂 Annnnnnd this easy recipe from @zoenathanloeb.🥇 . #HuckleberryCookbook Raspberry Preserves Ingredients: 5 cups fresh raspberries (or you can add blueberries, too! 🙋🏻♀️) 1/2 tsp kosher salt 3/4 cup sugar (adjust to taste 😊) 2/3 cup water . 1. Combine everything in a medium stainless-steel pot. Cover and simmer over medium-low heat until the berries fall apart, about 10 minutes. 2. Uncover and cook down until thickened, stirring frequently to avoid burning, about 25 minutes. (if you have framboise splash a little in for depth of flavor— hi, @inagarten! ♥️) If you do burn it, sadly, there is no saving it. 😧 3. Refrigerate until needed. 4. Yum. ♥️

Swipe and see! Well, it’s official— I could eat figs for every meal. Purple and green, sweet and savory. Practically a perfect food 😇 and easy peasy to prepare. #soyouthinkyoucanfarm👩🏻🌾 #motherfigger🙋🏻♀️ #gettinfiggywithit🤣🤦🏻♀️👵🏻 . Roasted Figs with Goat Cheese & Pine Nuts 1. Cut figs in half and remove the stems. 2. Drizzle with balsamic vinegar and salt. 3. Roast at 200 degrees for 2 hours. 4. Turn up the oven to 275 degrees for another 30-45 minutes, or until they look carmelized and delicious. 5. Toast some pine nuts in a dry pan. 6. Garnish the figs with the pine nuts, some goat cheese, a little more balsamic and a drizzle of honey. 7. Yum.

@savethechildren is running new programs in New Mexico, helping migrant families and children recover from their harrowing journeys and sending them onto their sponsor families with fresh clothes, medicine, clean bodies, full bellies, toys and a lot of love. •The majority of these people are families fleeing violence in the Northern Triangle. •Families walk around 20 days to get to the US. A dangerous journey. One mom carried her paraplegic 13 year old daughter on her back for 17 days of walking. •They enter our country looking for asylum— are detained at the border while US Customs vets their claims. Asylum seekers are up 600% this year. •Families are released from detention to wait for their asylum court dates. Families are allowed to stay in the country while they wait if they are with their sponsors— usually family members already living in America. •These people: No money. No baths. Need medical care. Need sleep. Need food. Need to organize travel. Children have been scared and on the move all of this time. •This is where #SaveTheChildren comes in. •The town of Deming, NM is pouring out money, time, goods, heart, opening homes, because they see these families as real people. They are running a shelter to help families after they’ve been released from detention. •No politics allowed. Person to person. •Save the Children is there to help with child friendly spaces, expertise in humanitarian crises. Trained volunteers. Child protection services. •Parents ask how much it costs for their children to join in the play. They cannot believe we are there just to make life better. •While we play with their children, parents watch with huge smiles— the first time their children have acted like kids in a long long long time. Or they fall into the deepest sleep— they are exhausted. •With help, parents arrange travel onto their sponsor family. •Families only stay 1-3 days but it’s enough to give them a clean, fresh, healthy, calm start on the next leg of their journeys. •7000

Did you know that you can help build a child’s brain, starting even before that baby can talk? My friends @developingchildharvard are reminding us of the importance of simple #ServeAndReturn interactions, things you probably do naturally, to help build strong connections in developing brains. 💪 🧠 They are easy to practice at home or on the go, and lay the foundation for lifelong learning, behavior, and health. Harvard says so! Here are the five steps: 1. Notice the serve and share the child’s focus of attention (pointing, making sounds, moving arms & legs) 2. Return the serve by supporting and encouraging (acknowledge, do it back!) 3. Give it a name (“built-in-accessory” 🙋🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️) 4. Take turns…and wait. Keep the interaction going back and forth. 5. Everyone knows that acts of kindness make us stronger and create a true sense of community. I’m excited to #SparkKindness with Walmart, which will have me on the hunt for random acts of kindness—big and small—every day. . My first (very exciting, very happy) project with @walmart took place at a school in Alpaugh, CA. I had visited @savethechildren’s literacy, numeracy, psycho social programs at this K-12 school, and had seen its value to the community. We rounded up Walmart associates and local volunteers and together—we cleaned up the grounds and planted a small garden. I can’t tell you how great it felt to leave behind a gathering place for a community I know can use a little love. . As part of the effort Walmart is hoping you will join us and perform, notice and share acts of kindness with them—and the world—using #SparkKindness. Base recipe by @melskitchencafe, water bath brought to us by @realbakingwithrose Ingredients: - 1/2 cup unbleached bread flour - 1/4 cup cool water - pinch of instant yeast - 4 cups unbleached bread flour - 1 1/4 cups cool water - 1 3/4 teaspoons salt - 1 1/2 teaspoons instant yeast - water to fill a 10” diameter pan about 1” deep - 2 tablespoons molasses - 1 teaspoon baking soda . Instructions: 1. Combine the starter ingredients in a medium bowl, cover, let rest at room temperature overnight. 2. Next day, combine the puffy starter 💁🏻♀️ with all of the dough ingredients and knead - by hand, electric mixer, or bread machine - to form a stiff but not dry dough. Since we’re using a high-protein bread flour here, you might notice it takes a bit more effort and time to develop the gluten. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and set aside to rise for an hour. Gently deflate the dough, and let it rise for another 30 minutes. 3. Transfer the dough to a work surface and divide it into 12 pieces. Roll each piece into a smooth, round ball. Cover the balls with plastic wrap and let them rest for 30 minutes. They’ll puff up very slightly. 4. While the dough is resting, prepare the water bath by heating the water to a very gentle boil in a wide-diameter pan. Add the molasses and baking soda. Stir. 5. Use your index finger to poke a hole through the center of each dough ball, then twirl the dough on your finger to stretch the hole till it’s about 2 inches in diameter. Place each bagel on a lightly greased or parchment-lined baking sheet, and repeat with the remaining pieces of dough. 6. Transfer the bagels, four at a time if possible, to the simmering water. Increase the heat under the pan to bring the water back up to a gentled simmering boil, if necessary. Cook the bagels for 2 minutes, flip them over, and cook 1 minute more. Using a skimmer or strainer, remove the bagels from the water and place them b

Maria and Alma are @savethechildren coordinators serving families in rural Los Angeles county (yes—rural Los Angeles! Rural poverty is everywhere!) I have watched these women work with the moms, dads, and children of their community, making lives better with their empathy, their common sense, their wisdom, humor and their boundless fun and optimism. Leave it to @norahweinstein, @kellysawyer, @baby2baby and @shutterfly to come up with a day like yesterday. They brought our Save The Children family into town and gave them a proper #MothersDay celebration, complete with food (Yay, @onceuponafarm!) music, dance, pampering for the mamas and huge gift bags filled with oodles of essential goods for every child. Fifteen years ago today #13GoingOn30 made her debut, directed with ❤️ by our beloved Gary Winick 😇 and a clutch of loving, hardcore producers (3 brilliant women—before it was cool to be led by women!) . The movie benefitted from the performances of so many young actresses. Open and twinkly-magical then— now, 15 years later, they are ruling the world. (Hi #SixChicks—@brielarson, @ashleybenson, @christabrittany—who also played a young me in Ghosts of Girlfriends Past—and my own sweet @revjuliaroth). . I loved my day with this slumber party crew: they danced with abandon and reminded me of the power of just saying yes—to being in a group, to vulnerability, to wearing a bra over your clothes. At the last minute I tossed my adopted LA family member Maddy Sprung-Keyser into the scene. @maddsk went on to be an Academic All American swimmer at Amherst, got her law degree from NYU, and is producing podcasts for @pineapple.fm. Looking back into her adolescence—with the hair and the men not wanting to jump her bones—is extra special today. Imagine if every 13 year old girl had an opportunity to dance and feel beautiful like the girls in this film. I am proud of all of you. ❤️ . I feel so, so lucky to have had the experience of making this joyful movie. And even luckier to be part of something that, all of these years later, can still make people (hi, @arianagrande 🤗) smile. 😁

Melissa Clark’s Spicy, Garlicky Cashew Spread Ingredients: 1 cup roasted, salted cashews 2 tbsp chopped cilantro, with some stems ¼ cup canola or safflower oil 4 garlic cloves, roughly chopped 2 tablespoons soy sauce 2 teaspoons brown sugar 1 to 2 jalapeño peppers, sliced (discard seeds or not, to taste) Juice of 1 lime (I like more🤷🏻♀️❤️!) Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper . Directions: 1. In a blender or food processor, combine cashews, cilantro, oil, garlic, soy sauce, brown sugar, jalapeño(s), lime juice (and 2 tablespoons of water that I forgot!). 2. Remove from heat; stir in the brown sugar, cinnamon and vanilla. Cover and let stand for 2 minutes. Sprinkle each serving with almonds. Serve with maple syrup and/or milk if desired. 3. Yum.

For an easy vegan version—add a drained can of black beans instead of chicken at the end—yum! The final delicious product is on IGTV. #PretendCookingShow #superbowlsnack #happybirthdayina! . #InaGarten’s Chicken Chili Ingredients: 8 cups chopped yellow onions (6 onions) 1/4 cup good olive oil, plus extra for chicken 1/4 cup minced garlic (8 cloves) 4 red bell peppers, cored seeded and large diced 4 yellow peppers, same 2 tsp chili powder 2 tsp ground cumin 1/2 teaspoon dried red pepper flakes 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper 4 tsp kosher salt, plus more for chicken 4 28oz cans whole peeled plum tomatoes in puree, undrained 1/2 cup minced fresh basil leaves 8 split chicken breasts, bone in skin on Freshly ground black pepper For serving: chopped onions, corn chips, grated cheddar, sour cream . Directions: 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. 2. Rub the chicken breasts with olive oil and place them on a baking sheet. Sprinkle generously with salt and pepper. 3. Roast the chicken for 35-40 mins, until just cooked. Let cool slightly. While simultaneously… 4. Cook the onions in the oil over medium-low heat for 10-15 minutes, until translucent. Add the garlic and cook for 1 more minute. 5. Add the bell peppers, chili powder, cumin, red pepper flakes, cayenne, and salt. Cook for 1 minute. 6. Crush the tomatoes by hand or in batches in a food processor fitted with a steel blade (pulse 6-8 times). Add to the pot with the basil. (I forgot this 🤦🏻♀️) 7. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer, uncovered, for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. 8. Separate the chicken meat from the bones and skin and cut into 3/4inch chunks. 9. Add to the chili and simmer, uncovered, for another 20 minutes. Serve with toppings, or refrigerate and reheat gently before serving. 10. Yum.

If summer feels forever away, and you have lingering candy cane dreams— this delicious recipe for mint chip ice cream by @cookieandkate is just the trick. And, honestly, it’s not too terrible for you and your new year’s resolutions. 🍨🍫🙋🏻♀️ . Fresh Mint Ice Cream Ingredients: - 2 cups 2% milk - 1 cup half&half - 20 fresh mint leaves - 3/4 cups turbinado (raw) sugar - dash of salt - 2 large egg yolks - 1 teaspoon real vanilla - 1/2 cup chocolate chunks (optional for chocolate lovers 🙋🏻♀️) . Directions: 1. Combine milk, half&half and mint leaves in a medium sized, heavy sauce pan over medium-high heat. Heat until tiny bubbles form around the edge (about 180°). Do not let boil! 2. Remove from heat, cover and let stand for 10 minutes. That gives the mint flavor time to steep. 3. Uncover it and pour the mixture through a colander into a medium bowl. Press the mint leaves slightly with a big spoon to get all the flavor. Discard the leaves, and pour the liquid back into your pan. 4. In a new bowl, combine sugar, salt and egg yolks. Stir with a whisk until the mixture is pale. 5. Gradually add half of the milk mixture to the egg mixture, while stirring constantly with a whisk. 6. Pour the egg/milk mixture back into the pan with the rest of the milk. 7. Cook over medium-low heat for about two minutes (or to 160°), stirring constantly. 8. Pour the mixture into a bowl. Stir in the vanilla extract. 9. Place the bowl in the fridge until the mixture cools completely, stirring occasionally. 10. Pour the mixture into your ice cream maker and follow the manufacturer’s instructions. 11. Add optional chocolate chunks once the mixture is set and churn a little longer. 12. If you’d like the ice cream to harden up a little more, freeze it for a couple of hours. 13. Yum.

You can find the full episode on IGTV. #PretendCookingShow #bangwentthecabinet #😡😩🤦🏻♀️wentmybrain #hurryupchristmas🤶🏻 . #TheBreadBible Chocolate Chocolate Chip Bread Ingredients: 3 Tbs plus 1/2 Tbs unsweetened cocoa powder 3 Tbs boiling water 1/2 Tbs pure vanilla extract 3 large eggs 1 1/2 cups sifted cake flour 3/4 cup plus 2 Tbs sugar 3/4 tsp baking powder 1/4 tsp salt 13 Tbs unsalted butter, softened 3 Tbs chocolate mini chips or bittersweet chocolate (chopped) . Directions: 1. Preheat oven to 350F. 2. Whisk cocoa and boiling water until smooth. Allow to cool to room temperature, then gently whisk in vanilla and eggs. 3. In a mixer bowl, combine cake flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix on low speed for 30 seconds to blend. Add half the chocolate paste and the butter and mix until dry ingredients are moistened. Increase speed to medium-high and beat for 1 minute to aerate and develop structure. Scrape down the sides of the bowl. Gradually add remaining chocolate paste in two batches, beating for 20 seconds after each addition to incorporate the ingredients and strengthen the structure. Scrape down the bowl. Fold in chocolate mini chips/chopped chocolate. 4. Scrape batter into prepared loaf pan and smooth the surface with a spatula. 5. Bake for 50-60 minutes. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center will read about 200F. (The bread shouldn’t start to shrink from the sides of the pan until after removal from the oven.) 6. Set the bread on a wire rack to cool for 10 minutes. Loosen the sides of the bread and invert onto an oiled wire rack. Reinvert so it is top side up and cool completely.

When everyone came over for dinner I needed warm and cozy — @sara_fostersmarket bolognese. This recipe is a staple at my house, especially when it comes to feeding a crowd. In this case, I tripled the recipe and it turned out perfectly. Bonus: my house smelled amazing! 🤗😁👵🏼 . Tonight is the finale of this wacko show and alas, it’s time to say goodbye. 😭 But every time I have bolognese bubbling on the stove I will be reminded of @juliettelewis @ioneskyelee @sullivangrams @brettgelman @janicza @itsreallychy @bridgeteverett @arturodelpuerto @duncanjoiner #DavidTennant. Everyday Bolognese Ingredients: 2 tbs olive oil 2 onions, diced 2 carrots, grated 4 garlic cloves, smashed and minced 2 lbs ground beef Sea salt, freshly ground black pepper 2 tsp dried oregano 2 tsp dried marjoram 2 tsp dried basil 1 cup dry red wine 2 tbs balsamic vinegar 2 (28oz) cans crushed tomatoes 2 tbs tomato paste 2 cups low-sodium chicken or vegetable broth 6 fresh basil leaves, thinly sliced 2 tbs chopped fresh oregano or marjoram . Directions: 1.) Sara calls for onions and carrots to be diced and grated by hand. If you are short on time (or lazy🙋🏻♀️) — I’ve found that using a food processor can get you the same result. 2.) Heat oil in a large saucepan until sizzling hot and add onions. Reduce to medium and cook, stirring, until onions are cooked through, about 5 mins. Add carrots, stirring, until tender, 2-3 mins longer. Add garlic, stirring often, 1 min more. 3.) Add beef, breaking it up, and season with salt & pepper to taste. Add dried herbs, stirring, until beef is cooked on the outside but still slightly pink inside, 4-5 mins more. 4.) Add wine and vinegar and cook to reduce slightly, scraping up any brown bits from the bottom, about 2 mins. Add tomatoes and tomato paste. Stir to combine. 5.) Stir in broth and bring to a low boil. Reduce heat to sim

And thank you, Grandma ♥️😇, for a recipe that tastes like you made it and is everything cozy and delicious about Thanksgiving. . Exie Mae Garner’s Sweet Potato Pudding Ingredients: 4 medium red sweet potatoes 3 cups milk 2 ½ cups sugar 3 tbsp oleo or butter Nutmeg Allspice Cinnamon 3 eggs, beaten 1 bag of miniature marshmallows . Directions: 1.) Peel and quarter sweet potatoes. 2.) Boil until tender and drain, then mash/beat with a beater. 3.) Add milk, sugar, butter, and spices to suit taste. 4.) Beat 3 eggs and add them in. 5.) Tip the pudding into a buttered 9x13 baking dish. 6.) Cook at 350 for about an hour, until nearly done. 7.) Turn the oven to broil. Spread marshmallows on top and put back in for about 2 minutes until browned. 8.) Yum.

Happy Halloween! 🎃 . Tomatillo Salsa 1 almost full gallon size bag of tomatillos (from my garden🤗). 3 cloves of garlic, trimmed but not peeled 2 whole jalapeños (or more if you want more spice) 2 or 3 limes Salt Olive oil 1 or 2 ripe avocados . 1. Preheat oven to 325F and line a baking sheet with tin foil. 2. Remove husks from tomatillos. Rinse and dry. Place on baking sheet. 3. Drizzle and coat with olive oil. 4. Add whole jalapeños and garlic to baking sheet. 5. Bake for about 30 minutes. You want the tomatillos softened, but not bursting. Jalapeños and garlic should be soft, as well. 6. Pull stems off jalapeños. Squeeze garlic from its shell. 7. Transfer everything to blender. Squeeze in lime juice and add a little salt. 8. Blend until smooth (leave the lid off a bit and cover with a towel to let the steam escape). 9. Transfer to bowl and let cool. 10. Refrigerate. 11. Add more salt to taste. Add diced avocado. 12. Cast a spell. Yum.

🔊Sound on. I creeped so hard on @abtofficial dancers, they let me watch company class the last time I was in NYC. I have big feelings about the whole thing and will do my best to dole them out, so as not to alarm ABT security. Watching the company take class was every bit as 🌟❤️😁 as you’d imagine. Tucked into a barre in the back was quiet, focused, still, truly mesmerizingly beautiful @devon.teusch. Dancers refer to company class as a meditation—Devon treated it as just that—she approached each exercise with serene authority. #PretendCookingShow— fish sticks! They’re fast. They’re delicious. #makeextra 🌟Full episode is on #IGTV🌟 . Ingredients: 1 lb of tilapia 1/4 cup of flour Salt Pepper 1 egg 1 cup Panko Bread Crumbs (regular or whole wheat) 3/4 cup Corn Flake Crumbs (or any sweet cereal you like, smashed to bits) Canola oil (or oil of your preference) . Directions: 1.) Trim your tilapia into fish stick size pieces. You want them to be of similar size and thickness. There is always one side of the fillet that is thinner so I make those into “wide and flat sticks” 🤷♀️ 2.) Gather three bowls to use for your batter station. . Bowl 1: 1/4 cup of flour, a few big pinches of salt, about a teaspoon of fresh ground pepper. Bowl 2: crack one egg, add a little water, mix with a fork. Bowl 3: combine the Panko and corn flake crumbs. Have an empty plate ready to catch your fish sticks when they are battered. . 3.) Start at bowl one, coat fish piece in flour, shake excess. Dip in bowl two, shake excess. Drop in bowl three, push crumbs into fish until fully coated. Place on plate. Repeat until all fish pieces are done. 4.) About half way through battering, I like to start heating my oil. About 1/4 inch on medium/high. 5.) When the oil is ready, place 5 to 6 fish pieces in your pan (or whatever will fit, giving them some breathing room). 6.) Prepare a plate covered in paper towels to catch fish sticks when they come out of the oil. 7.) They cook through fast. Pay attention to the color. When they are a deep golden brown, flip. When both sides are sufficiently brown, remove from pan and place on paper towel. Sprinkle with salt immediately. 8.) Repeat for remaining fish sticks, add/heat more oil if necessary. 9.) Yum.

Swipe and see! I’m sure I adapted this recipe from somewhere. 🤷🏻♀️ It’s fast, it’s delicious, it’s healthy — a favorite for sure. 😍 🍤.🍤.🍤 Marinated Grilled Shrimp 1. In a bowl…zest and juice of a lime. 2. Careful of your fingers! I also grate a clove or two of garlic on a microplane. 3. Pinch of red pepper flakes. More if you like spicy. 4. Glug glug of olive oil. 5. Splash of white wine (and a splash for the cook 😁). 6. Plenty of salt. Some pepper. 7. A pound of peeled and deveined shrimp. 8. Marinate in the fridge for anywhere from 5 minutes to 5 hours. I’ve honestly left it overnight and it was delish. 9. Chop and add a bunch of Italian parsley. 10. Heat something — a grill, a cast iron skillet, a grill pan — hot enough to form a little crunch on the outside of the shrimp. 11. Cook a couple of minutes a side. They need to be pink, but don’t overdo it. 12. Yum.

I’m a big fan of homemade pizza—made in the oven, on the grill, or waiting in the freezer for just the right moment—I mean, who isn’t? 🤷🏻♀️ I like a lot of pizza dough recipes out there— @cooksIllustrated’s, @gwynethpaltrow’s, but when I’m starting with a house full of hungry kids (💯!) I use @melskitchencafe’s. Really, with any of these, you can’t go wrong. Years ago I rolled out extra dough, brushed it with olive oil, sprinkled it with crushed dry thyme, rosemary and a good dose of salt and my family’s favorite bread was born. The kids call it #pizzacracker and it is my family’s top request. 🍕🥇💁🏻♀️ . . . Mel’s Kitchen Cafe’s Foolproof Pizza Dough Ingredients: 1 cup warm water 1 tablespoon honey 1 tablespoon oil 1 tablespoon instant yeast 2-3 cups flour (any combination of bread, all purpose, whole wheat) 1 teaspoon salt For the top— sprinkle of olive oil, big dash of salt, dried rosemary and thyme . . . 1. In a large bowl or in the bowl of an electric stand mixer fitted with the dough hook, mix the water, honey, oil, yeast and salt. Add the flour gradually until a soft dough forms and pulls away from the sides of the bowl. The exact flour amount will vary so go by the touch and feel of the dough versus the exact cup measurements in the recipe. The dough should be soft and smooth (but if I have to pick, I’d choose slightly sticky over stiff). 2. Knead the dough for 2-3 minutes (more like 5-6 minutes if kneading by hand or if using whole wheat flour). 3. Let the dough rest, covered, for 10 minutes. 4. Pinch off a chunk of dough the size of your fist and stretch or roll it as thin as possible. It has to be thin to bubble, and the oven has to be HOT! 🔥 5. Bake at 475 or 500 degrees on a preheated pizza stone or on a lightly greased baking sheet for 8-10 minutes. Keep an eye, because once it starts to bubble and brown it can be done in an instant. 6. Use leftover dough to make pizzas....😉 7. Yum

The Best Chocolate Sheet Cake. Ever. Ingredients: 3 3/4 sticks butter, salted 1 cup water 8 heaping tablespoons cocoa powder 2 cups flour 2 cups sugar 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup buttermilk 2 eggs 2 teaspoons vanilla 1 teaspoon baking soda 6 tablespoons milk 1 lb powdered sugar 1/2 cup pecans (optional) . . . .5 Preheat oven to 350 degrees. 1. Melt 2 sticks of regular butter in a sauce pan. Simultaneously boil 1 cup of water. 2. Add 4 heaping tablespoons of cocoa powder to the melted butter and mix thoroughly. 3. Pour in the boiling water and allow the mixture to bubble for 30 seconds. Turn off heat and set aside. 4. In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups flour, 2 cups sugar, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Stir together. 5. Pour the hot butter mixture over the dry ingredients and stir together slightly, just to cool the chocolate. 6. In a measuring cup, pour 1/2 cup buttermilk and add to that 2 beaten eggs, 1 teaspoon vanilla, and 1 teaspoon baking soda. Stir together. 7. Add the buttermilk mixture to the chocolate/flour mixture and stir well. 8. Pour the DELICIOUS batter onto an ungreased baking sheet or jelly roll pan and spread evenly. 9. Bake for 20 minutes. Time for icing! 10. If adding nuts, chop 1/2 cup of pecans. The smaller and crunchier the better. Omit for nut-free/picky kids. 🙋🏻 11. Melt 1 3/4 sticks of regular butter. 12. Once melted, add 4 heaping tablespoons of cocoa powder and stir together. Allow to bubble for 30 seconds and then turn off the heat. 13. Stir in 6 tablespoons milk and 1 teaspoon vanilla. 14. Add 1 lb powdered sugar, or to taste. For me, 1/2 lb is plenty. 15. Stir together. Add the nuts if you have them. 16. Pour the icing all over the cake and spread evenly. Devo

Combine the cornstarch, sugar and salt in a medium saucepan. 2.) Slowly whisk in the milk, in a thin stream at first so lumps don’t form, then more quickly once the cornstarch mixture is smoothly incorporated. 3.) Place over medium-low heat and stir occasionally, scraping the bottom and sides. Whisk as necessary should lumps form. 4.) After 10 minutes or so (slower over low heat is better, to give the cornstarch time to cook), before it starts to simmer, the mixture should begin to thicken, enough that it will coat the back of a spoon. 5.) Add the chocolate, and continue stirring for another 2 to 4 minutes, until chocolate is fully incorporated and mixture is quite thick. 6.) Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla. 7.) If you’re concerned about lumps (🙋🏻♀️): run the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer. 8.) Distribute among individual pudding cups or one large serving bowl, chill in the refrigerator until it is cool and set, about 2-3 hours. 9.) If you dislike pudding skin (🙋🏻♀️🙋🏻♀️): put plastic wrap on top of the pudding and smooth it gently against the surface before refrigerating. 10.) Pudding is good for 3 days in the fridge. I’ve been making this @marthastewart recipe for years—the roast lemon chicken alone is enough to make you sing! 🎶 You can dress it up (homemade stock) or make it in a hurry (broth from a box—don’t tell @inagarten!), whatever you do, this recipe is a sure thing. . . . Martha Stewart’s Roast Lemon Chicken Soup Ingredients: 2 lemons, thinly sliced 6 small shallots, peeled and quartered lengthwise 1 whole 4 pound chicken (backbone and giblets removed) 2 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil, divided Salt Pepper 6 cups chicken stock . . . 1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. 2. Rub chicken with 1 tablespoon oil and season with 1 tablespoon salt and 1/2 teaspoon pepper. 3. Brush 1 tablespoon oil in the center of a rimmed baking sheet slightly larger than the size of the chicken. Slice lemons thinly and lay half of them out in a single layer on the oil. 4. Place chicken, skin side up, on the lemons. Beginning at the neck end of the breast, carefully loosen skin from flesh of breast and thighs with your fingers. Slide the remaining lemon slices under skin in a single layer. (This isn’t as scary as it sounds, go for it!) 5. Roast chicken for 20 minutes. Toss shallots with remaining teaspoon oil and scatter around chicken. Continue to roast chicken until a thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the breast reaches 165 degrees — appx. 25 to 30 minutes more. 6. Transfer chicken to a carving board and let chicken cool completely. Remove and discard skin, lemon under skin and bones. 7. Shred meat into bite-size pieces. Mix shredded meat with the pan juices, roasted lemons and shallots from the baking sheet into a bowl. (feel free to stop here, you can’t do better than this concoction) 8. Bring chicken stock to a simmer in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Stir in chicken, lemons, shallots and pan juices, and simmer 1 minute. Remove from heat and season with salt and pepper. 9.
