As a lot of you know Arkhan the Cruel and The Dark Order will appear as Non Player Characters in the new Dungeons & Dragons module BALDUR’S GATE: DESCENT INTO AVERNUS. Well, I had the distinct pleasure of working with famed comic book artist Max Dunbar to bring him and his crew to life. Max’s artwork became the basis for the new set of WizKids playable miniatures that I will be unveiling within the next week or so. In the meantime, here is a look at the concept art of Arkhan the Cruel and his Manticore pet Changó in front of the Tower of Avernus, Arkhan’s Minotaur bodyguard Torogar Steelfist, his Death Domain Tortle Cleric Krull, and one of Arkhan’s horde of Berserker minions (modeled after a good friend of mine...). DEATH SAVES WAR OF DRAGONS E. Gary Gygax Memorial Dungeon - Another one for the ages... The captured Bronze Dragon rose from the pit as an undead abomination and the group was fighting for their lives in the Island Temple of Orcus. Luckily they had help in the form of a freed Half Stone Giant named Ullac Jotuun but even he couldn’t stop the Dracolich from murdering Jericho Blackwing by brutal electrocution. Ullac did send a monstrous bird of prey to a watery grave via an explosive volcano stone while Kalatuur, Lapp, Kimathi, Hugo, and Phan fought off hordes of undead, sailors from a long forgotten shipwreck that kept washing up on the shores of the tiny island. Oriax dealt the death blow to the dragon as Kasin prepared for a ritual that would hopefully raise his freshly dead teammate from the grave but not even he was prepared for what happened next... I cannot begin to explain how much Gary Gygax influenced the world of entertainment, games, and fantasy. He was truly one of the great American innovators in that he created a system in which all future generations had the tools to easily create their own bespoke fantasy worlds to invite others into. He was instrumental in jumpstarting my life long adventure of character building and storytelling and I never got to meet him and thank him... so I let his son Luke know, in fact I tell him just about every time I see him. In my hand in those pictures, I’m holding a set of dice that belonged to Gary that were a very generous gift from Luke that remind me of what my life is and has always been about... telling great stories. I cannot thank you enough Luke... and Happy Birthday Gary. July 27 #rip

This Friday my film BOTTOM OF THE 9th opens in select theaters starring myself, my wife Sofía, Michael Rispoli (The Deuce), Denis O’Hare (True Blood), Vinnie Pastore (The Sopranos), MLB Champion Pitcher Brian Wilson, and a host of other fantastic actors. Its a story of redemption and making the most of second chances in life. It was directed by New York filmmaker Raymond De Felitta (Rob The Mob, City Island), shot by legendary DP Barry Markowitz (Sling Blade, The Apostle), and I produced the film with my brother Nick with the cooperation of the Yankees organization. We all worked really hard to create a film that was honest and raw and full of heart and I’m extremely proud of all of the performances. I hope you all see it and enjoy it!

A year ago I put together an all star, ALL TANKS game for Dungeons & Dragons for their Stream of Many Eyes event comprised of: Me as my Red Half-Dragon, Oathbreaker/Berserker - Arkhan the Cruel who appears as an NPC in the upcoming Baldur’s Gate: Descent into Avernus adventure module, Former Cross Fit Masters Champion Ron Mathews as his Oath of Devotion Paladin of Celine - Bieber MJ Timberlake that he developed for the playtesting of DragonHeist: Waterdeep/Dungeon of the Mad Mage, Former WWE/WCW Champion Paul Wight aka: The Big Show, as his Dark Sun Half-Giant, Ullac Yotun, And Travis Willingham’s Tal Dorei Goliath Berserker - Grog Strongjaw from the first season of the web-series Critical Role. The game was played at level 18 and DM’d masterfully by none other than D&D’s Franchise Creative Director and 5th Edition Co-Creator Mike Mearls. People still talk about how much fun that game was and over the past year IDW Comics superstar artist Max Dunbar worked with me to create this original piece of art to commemorate the event while Steven Oaks stepped in to do the color. Gary Gygax Memorial Dungeon - The group emerged from the ancient tomb buried beneath the ruins of DragonSpear Castle with a legendary weapon that could help turn the tide of the War. Luckily they were then intercepted by a mysterious Sorcerer named Kasin who saved them from an ambush set by the forces of the Black Dragon Highlord Kedrick Gilbane. Kasin then led them to an abandoned island that housed a Temple to Orcus used hundreds of years ago to turn living dragons into horrible undead abominations where Kedrick’s Draconian slaves unloaded a giant caged beast from the hull of their ship and attempted an ancient and foul ritual to rebirth the creature into a cruel facsimile of its former self... all of that and a huge reveal from Kasin’s father on his death bed... DEATH SAVES - ORCUS - Since the inception of DEATH SAVES i’d had my heart set on a collaboration with Dungeons & Dragons in which I could update the Demon Prince ORCUS but the artist I wanted to bring him to life was always too busy... BUT lucky for us, famed Metal artist SAWBLADE freed up his schedule to collaborate on this absolutely insane piece that I hope becomes the defining image of the Prince of the Undead and Lord and Master of the 333rd layer of the Abyss for decades to come... And for those that don’t know, The Book of Vile Darkness describes Orcus as "a massive, bloated demon prince—bloated on spite, bile, and contempt." The book goes on to say that "Orcus is no longer content to grow old and fat on the larva in his castle. He focuses his anger and hate on the absolute destruction of his enemies and the spread of woe and havoc among mortals. Truly a demon reborn, Orcus is more terrible and dangerous than ever." Proud to announce that my film “Bottom of the 9th” will be released theatrically on July 19th. It’s a story of loss, love, and redemption set to the backdrop of the Bronx and New York Minor League baseball. It was a labor of love and quite literally a family affair as I produced the film with my brother Nick and act opposite of my wife Sofia and a bunch of my most talented friends like Denis O’Hare (True Blood), Michael Rispoli and Vinnie Pastore (The Sopranos), and MLB All Star and World Champion Pitcher Brian Wilson, to name a few. I am incredibly proud of the performances of the entire cast and the film is shot beautifully by the legendary Barry Markowitz. Thank you Saban Films for believing in it. I’m very excited for you all to see it this summer.

I spent summers growing up in Maine which means I know what red hotdogs and Humpty Dumpty Down East dip chips are. It also means I was exposed to this crazy black and white indie comic WAY before the rest of the world was... that comic was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The year was most likely 85 or 86 and a chance encounter with some Peaks Island kids on the Casco Bay ferry completely altered the course of my creativity forever. On that ferry ride I read my first TMNT issue and when we got the the island the kids exposed me to the Palladium TMNT table top game and I would never be the same. The next decade would see me obsessed with writing and running game after game after game. To think that three decades later I would finally get to meet the man who invented that comic book that became the wellspring of my creative mind while reconnecting him with the original painting he did in 1985 for the cover of the Game book, which hangs on my office wall (thanks to my wife) and was coincidentally the first time he painted the turtles in color... is mind blowing. PALADIN IN HELL (REDUX) LONGSLEEVE - This is the @deathsaves take on the iconic illustration “A Paladin In Hell” by the late great artist Donald Sutherland III. Appearing in the first edition of the Dungeon Master’s Guide (and later inspiring a module of the same name by Monty Cook). The image depicts a paladin with his back to a cliff fending off the endless charge of the demonic forces of Hell. We at Death Saves thought it would be awesome to do an updated “redux” with a bit more backstory. During a battle with the holy Paladin Hainard of the Whiteguard, the evil King of the DeathKnights, Saint Kargoth the Betrayer lost his sword Gorgorin The Shatterer. In our take, the sentient blade escaped and teleported itself to Hell. Hainard then made it his life’s quest to track down Gorgorin and destroy the sword forever. Our “Paladin in Hell” shows Hainard in fierce combat with a giant sized demon as he calls down a Divine Smite in the form of a holy lightning bolt into his sword! See if you can spot the silhouette of Gorgorin The Shatterer on top of a lava-fall in the background... The front of the shirt also showcases elements of 80s thrash / hardcore that reference the graphics and typography you would find on the spine of an old music cassette. TYRANNY OF DRAGONS - Episodes 8 & 9 - In order to earn the respect of the Paladin Onthar Frume, the party was forced to fight each other in a burned out section of Elturel called The Square. The party subsequently suffered its second death when Phan decided to attack the heavily armed HellRiders rather than compete in the Battle Royale. Then after the two Half-Orc Barbarians Kalator and Graeghin traded blows in a heavy weight slug fest, Lemmy ScumDragon broke his hold spell and critted to pull out the victory over Jericho Blackwing and was made an honorary HellRider as a result. The group then hitched a ride to Baldur’s Gate on the ship of a pirate named Akhenaten and his Troglodyte first mate Huxtable Illuminati but they needed to seek shelter from a storm in a Duergar cave that was taken over by an evil Drider. After solving his death traps the group had to face the Drider in combat during which he killed Jericho and collapsed the cave separating Oriax, Graeghin, and Lemmy from the group. Phan, Neruk, and Kalator then defeated a giant constrictor snake with the help of one of the pirates and Huxtable on their way back to the ship. They then transported Jericho’s corpse to Baldur’s Gate where they sought the help of a mysterious man named Arsson who sent them to a graveyard to meet the dark priests of Myrkel who resurrected their friend in frightening fashion. The party then picked up the trail of the Dragon Cult which led to their first glimpse of the Black Half-Dragon Rezmir as they prepared to hit the long road for Waterdeep. To Be Continued...

COMIC-CON PREVIEW 1 - PALADIN IN HELL (REDUX) - This is our take on the iconic @dndwizards illustration “A Paladin In Hell” by the late great artist Donald Sutherland III. Appearing in the first edition of the Player’s Handbook (and later inspiring a module of the same name by Monty Cook), the image depicts a nameless paladin in melee with a giant demon whilst a hoard of various demonic monstrosities approach from below. It’s AWESOME. We thought it would be interesting to do an updated “redux” and add a bit more backstory to the image. Saint Kargoth the Betrayer (King of the Deathknights), during a battle with paladin Hainard of the Whiteguard, lost his favored sword Gorgorin The Shatterer. In our take, the sentient blade escaped and teleported itself to Hell. Hainard made it his life’s quest to track down Gorgorin and destroy the sword forever. Our “Paladin in Hell” shows Hainard in fierce combat with a grotesque demon as holy power is streaking down into his sword to charge it for a Divine Smite! A variety of demons swarm below. Off in the distance you can see the silhouette of Gorgorin The Shatterer on top of a lava-fall. HEAVYWEIGHT! We then chose to amp things up a bit and filter this shirt design through a few more lenses. The front of the shirt showcases elements of 80s thrash / hardcore that reference the graphics / typography you would find on the spine of an old music cassette. TYRANNY OF DRAGONS - episode 7 The group persuaded Manservant Loman into building an abattoir to incubate the two remaining Black Dragon eggs. They then convinced the distraught Governor Tarbaw Nighthill into building a more permanent hatchery in Greenest’s keep. The next day, the party set out on the six day journey to Elturel. On night two, the Wood Elf Rogue Phan heard someone drowning nearby and was attacked by two Lake Hags. The group woke and jumped to his aid but Oriax and Neruk were struck down by the Hags’ Death Glares. The fallen were revived and the group continued traveling the next morning. Then on the last night of travel, Phan noticed a man cowering in the underbrush near camp. He was covered in blood and bleeding profusely from what appeared to be animal attacks. Foaming at the mouth he grabbed for Phan’s silvered rapier and begged to die. Oriax, the winged Tiefling Hex-Warlock sensed something was very wrong and flew up to get a birds eye look and spotted three figures barreling at a rapid pace towards their camp through the forest. He opened fire with a crackling red Eldritch Blast right before the beast vaulted up into a nearby tree and sunk its claws into Oriax. The rest of the group joined the melee against three giant werewolves! Goliath Battle Master Neruk activated his Flaming short sword Hekla and landed several blows on the frightened man who began to transform into a fourth werewolf. Goliath Bard Lemmy joined the fray using his Thunderwave to wreak havoc but was clawed, bitten, and infected by one of the werewolves. Natty the pseudodragon provided necessary distractions for Tabaxi Warlock Avi and company to land some crucial blows on their way to defeating the creatures of the night. Death Domain Cleric Jericho convinced the group to power through the night on horse back to Elturel. There he located a Temple of Torm where he convinced the local healer to cure Lemmy and Oriax but in his feverous condition Oriax blasphemed against his Vampir

But when Phan heard a voice he stealthed up to inspect and found it belonged to one of the Blue Half Dragon’s “Frazetta-esque” Berserker women hunched over the fallen body of one of her sisters of chaos, speaking into some sort of hand held carved idol, relaying to her bosses that two people with the same descriptions as Avi and Lemmy murdered her friend and took off. The rest of the gang engaged and before long, they were in the midst of a rematch with the Blue Half Dragon himself and his horde of warrior women. The group suffered heavy casualties when Oriax and Neruk were knocked unconscious but Jericho healed Neruk just in time for him to get revenge on the Half Dragon for his previous humiliation in Greenest by dealing the death blow. Meanwhile a hasted Calator took off after the fleeing evil cleric. He withstood her Spiritual Guardians and managed to land a crit that was instrumental in making sure she didn’t get away. The adventurers then leveled up while finally attuning to the artifacts they found in the Ice Cave. Oriax became one with a purple silk robe emblazoned with golden cobras and the Dwarf King’s amulet cracked open to reveal a floating, rose colored, stag skull of protection, while Neruk attuned to “Hekla” a flaming sword of an ancient volcano goddess. Which was good because they would need every bit of help they could get against the Black Dragon hatchery full of Drakes, Kobolds, and a Roper!!! The adventure continues!!!

TYRANNY OF DRAGONS - episode 5 After retreating from the near TPK lightning breath/ladder debacle the group decided to regroup and reassess the situation... in the main entrance hall of the Dragon Cultists’ cave hideout. Needless to say, their short rest was quickly interrupted by a search party and the fighting ensued. Neruk, Avi, and Calator made short work of a group of Kobolds before Lemmy unleashed a Thunderwave that wiped out almost the entire group of 10 reinforcements. Oriax, then threw caution to the wind and split the party as he went off on his own to inspect a trash heap for treasure that wound up being a haven for a gang of troglodytes. He would have bled out had Lemmy not pursued and cast a last second Healing Word. BUT, Oriax did find a secret passage to an ice tomb that held an ancient Dwarven puzzle that Jericho and Phan made short work of revealing a powerful weapon that could help them turn the tide... TO BE CONTINUED... And a special thanks to the best delivery food in LA: @hokepoke

TYRANNY OF DRAGONS chapter 4: Our adventurers collected their pay from the smoothest Governor in Greenest while Avi put some smooth moves upstairs on the Governor’s wife. Lemmy then charmed the hearts and minds of a group of local hunters with a little ‘Patience’ while gleaning information about the evil Dragon Cult and their dragon egg hatchery... and then things got interesting. Neruk, Phan, Oriax, and Jericho, laid waste to the cult’s guards in brutal fashion but due to their disregard for subtlety, they alerted the camp’s sorceress Frulam Mondath who set a trap for the group with the help of the Blue Half-Dragon Warrior Langdedrosa Cyanwrath and his horde of blood covered, ‘Frazetta-esque,’ berserker women. If it weren’t for Graeghin splitting the party and disappearing into the adjoining caves there would have been a damn near Total Party Kill via lightning blast... TYRANNY OF DRAGONS chapter 3 was full of epic moments! We needed some extra room to lay out the Dragon Cult’s camp for an extra special adventure which saw the introduction of Lemmy Scumdragon and his benefit concert that rallied the hearts and minds of the people of Greenest in the wake of the massacre. We discovered that cats like Avi don’t always land on their feet but can still f**k sh*t up with Arms of Hadar from the ground. Oriax (with a belly full of magic cuttlefish) was one roll away from one of the biggest heists in history. Jericho is two for two when it comes to making giant warrior women vomit their guts out. Phann saved the Governor from having his head ripped clean off by a frothing half-orc and although Neruk and Graegin did not podium this year in the horse throwing competition they harmonized their asses off when it came to singing Erasure songs... TO BE CONTINUED! And a big shout out to my new go-to D&D food delivery: @hokepoke

This is my great grandmother. She was shot and left for dead right after witnessing the murder of her husband and seven of her children in her home in Kharput, Armenia in 1915. Her eighth child would later die during her escape. This is her three years later with my infant grandmother in Constantinople right before she got onto the boat to come to America. This happened. We can never forget that it did lest we become accomplices to future genocides. I am indebted to the strength and fortitude of my great grandmother and to all of the Armenians that survived this hellish time. Without them I wouldn’t exist. #neverforget #armeniangenocide
