What an enjoyable thought process I’ve been set on by @americanair, who has started a campaign to support women in entertainment, and sent me this pin, “WOMEN FLY BEYOND”. They asked me who I admire, and there are so many hard-working women I admire from afar, (@alma.harel made a humdinger of an artwork — did you see Honey Boy??) but here are a few I’ve had the pleasure of knowing, in order in which I met them: @sophiabanksc is a director who I admire for her passion. She’s got one kid and one helluva lot of hustle. @rmorrison is — obviously? — the first and only female cinematographer to be nominated for an Oscar. She is unbelievably talented and ridiculously humble. And is normalizing working while pregnant and breastfeeding in an environment that’s not only male-dominant but wherein work days run 16+ hours on the regular @sumnermickey is a bad mother——, a dope actress, a dedicated mother and activist. @the_elle_key is an incredible writer-director who everyone wants to work with and everyone is smart for that! Endless ideas and charm, you can count on her to get shit done. There you have it. #weflybeyond 💙 Thanks for adding your voice to the conversation, @americanair

This is the raddest of dads. This guy took the first pic on a self-timer out in the flippin wilderness alone with both children. (Me and my milk-makers miles away.) Bold move! One of many. Breaking the rules now! I want to comment upon them now. Day 6/10 of the #filmchallenge. This frame is from The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. It’s a true story, and one that easily falls into the category of “the triumph of the human spirit” / “restore your faith in humanity”, a commonality it shares with he first one I posted, The Intouchables (though I don’t think that’s a true story). (Someone has now informed me that it IS a true story too!) The imagery is groundbreaking. The story is moving and true to the letter, based upon the protagonist’s autobiography. If you haven’t seen it, see it sixth in your lineup of movies I recommend. 😉

It happened! It happened this morning. And it will go down in family history because babygirl’s own, incredible Dad delivered her all by himself. My fault, as I didnt know she would come so quickly and didn’t call the doc until far too late. He came straight over and arrived about one minute after she joined us in the world. Haha! My Mom too. You should’ve seen their faces when they walked in to hear her little wail. Mom immediately took this picture. So epic. 9:21a (we think) at 7lbs 8oz (we think). 😆 Doc didn’t have time to grab the baby scale in his rush. Meet Ms. Polly. She’s chubby-cheeked and rosy and so beautiful. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

This looks like a Dali painting, where I’m melting. My belly is melting off my body. Right? Hahaha. Perhaps both the most intimate and yet the most foreign thing to occur to my body. So, I’m due THURSDAY. Still hoping for sooner, not because I’m over being pregnant but because, knowing what I’m getting into this time, I’d like to get on with it! Days spent pre-cooking meals and refamiliarizing myself with nursing accouterments and planning for this laying-in phase make me want to start! Meanwhile, the problem with finding a new show to binge is that I care more about Bosch’s cases than I do about my own life. Last night’s premiere of @spywhodumpedme proved a few things to me: that Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon are already, at their young ages, legendary; that it’s a real adventure going out when you’re pregnant AF; and that I am, in fact, pregnant AF. Modeling the dress at home and then out. Feeling all the preggo ladies. S/o to @hilaryduff for her post about how hard it can actually be. Joelia strikes again! So, a reminder to cop a Red Nose and contribute to the motion. (Duane Reade + Walgreens carry them and also a chic new work-friendly version of a pin.) @rednosedayusa is a huge, joyous drive to fund SEVERAL brilliantly effective children’s charities. Sam (Joel/@samjaeger) and I went up to Seattle to see first-hand some of the awesome work of a nation-wide group called City Year that helps kids stay in school — in areas that statistically have higher drop-out rates. Video to come. And we visited the local Walgreens that is winning the race to sell the most noses in their region. It all culminates in a huge drive / night of fun on @nbc with a bunch of celebrities come together on May 24th to raise as celebrate that giving spirit. (You may have seen the episode of @ninjawarrior I got to participate in for last year’s Red Nose Day...madness and the most fun.) Sooo the noses are sparkly this year and the organizations will warm your dang heart. Get on it. #joelia ♥️ #rednoseday 🔴

A private moment from the beginning of this relationship that’s still in its beginnings. Today I definitely focused on my gratitude for my mom, who did and does so much to teach me not THAT the seemingly impossible is possible, but HOW. She taught me to break the mountain down into step after step. I hope I can teach the same invaluable lesson. And now a moment of gratitude to my girl for swooping in and bringing her infectious joy and curiosity into our family, and for helping me learn how to be a mama. I’ll just say this: if you ever live with me you’ll discover I am the recycling enforcer. I will take sh*t out of your trash and re-sort it. Or I will carry it home with me if you won’t recycle it. It’s a good baseline for environmental responsibility for me! This beautiful 🌍 is like everything else — if you want it to remain, you have to contribute to it. I try to save energy and water and to bring my own bags to the grocery store and get closer to zero waste. Lots of car-less commuting, granted, mostly before 👶🏼. But!
