Trying to enjoy this time to rest and do things I never have time to do... but not feeling grounded enough to get my creative flow back...Uncertainty is not a good feeling but I do think the world needed to slow down and be forced to take a deep look within and open our eyes to the way we live as a society...I have been feeling like humanity has been out of control for a while, consumerism, social media, the more is more mentality, constant bombardment of information, people in general have lost the sense of what is truly important..this is why I have always escaped into nature, Voluntary social distance, It has always been my refuge and way to reset bad habits. I also can’t help but feel the pain of what so many people in the world have gone though and continue to go through in a much more extreme way than what we are experiencing now. Where starvation and health issues are normal. So just stop. Stop for a moment to feel gratitude and compassion and kindness. Feel the shift that is happening and let it transform you into a better version of yourself, so that we can be better collectively. Love To you all. C

I had an unforgettable experience spending time with the Pataxó tribe in South Bahia Brazil. Sharing knowledge art and ritual. 11,000 Pataxó people currently live inside their protected land in different communities. Porto do Boi consists of a small family community who created a Cultural Centre to be open for visitors since 2004. In 2013 their main structure fell down due to the lack of income to maintain the structure. Since then the community had to find other ways of sustaining themselves moving to cities in search of jobs. As a consequence, the Cultural Centre of Porto Do Boi had to close their doors. The current leader Tige Maturemba Baixu is now gathering help to rebuild the Culture Centre and revive the Pataxó Culture with the help of visitors and volunteers. The relationship the Pataxó people have maintained with nature and their surroundings led to the development of an acute spiritual consciousness... Celebrating the moon, the sun and many other entities through various rituals and prayers, the lifestyle of the Pataxó tribe is still oriented today in close connection and relation with the transcendental bond their ancestors have developed with their natural environment. Back in @mmtckenya meeting Gilbert and his family, a local landowner and first investor in the community owned project. Gilbert said that he and about 700 other local landowners invested part of their land in exchange for new homes and rental apartments on their homesteads within the City. None of the locals have been displaced. Instead, they receive monthly income from rentals which is putting their kids and grandkids through school. Behind us is his new house powered by solar energy. This concept will impact the inevitable growth that is happening in Africa ensuring that it’s done in a conscious way.

Meeting the CEO, Dr Maurice Siminyu, at the cancer center at @mmtckenya Hamptons Hospital, where they are specializing in Cancer treatment and have the first 7T MRI in Africa and Asia. Upon completion in 2020 it will be the largest hospital in the world, treating advanced stage cancers using leading edge technology. I had the pleasure of meeting a few of the thousands of kids in Kakamega area of Kenya who’s families are benefiting from the new concept at @mmtckenya where the rural land owners are integrated into the project creating jobs, homes, electricity and water in a safe and sustainable environment. These kids were used to walking kilometers to school in the dark if they could even afford to go to school. It’s amazing to see a community working together to ensure a better future for the young generations.

A lot of people were so quick to comment on this picture, Saying how can a MOTHER support this! This is exactly why I do... Because as a mother I know how much hard work it takes to care for my children. How much sacrifice and dedication it takes...emotionally financially and physically. I wanted my babies desperately... I dreamed about their little faces. I am more fortunate than many and let me tell you that the pressure is there. You are their guidance and safe place. If you cannot provide this then it should be your choice not to become a mother. Let’s get one thing straight..I don’t support late term abortion...but if a woman has been raped or in a terrible situation she should have the choice of what to do in the EARLY stages of pregnancy! Yes it is Very sad to think about aborting a foetus but what is more devastating is a child coming into this world having to endure life without love or basic comfort. A child living through abuse or extreme poverty or an unstable mother or being orphaned..This is what is NOT fair. Some people say pro life and that’s it. But its far more complex than that. I am pro life, life WITH love. It’s more than just a physical body it’s a soul that needs nurturing. Babies can’t fend for themselves. They need love and stability more than you know. This should be the law #created-out-of-love-not-fear

This picture was taken at their headquarters in #SouthAfrica, my home country. #mothers2mothers is based on a true model of sisterhood, with the inspiring #HIV-positive women they employ as “Mentor Mothers” leading it all, helping women and their families access lifesaving medical care and preventing their babies from it. I know how daunting it can be to become a new mother. But I can’t imagine having to deal with a life-changing diagnosis like HIV at the same time, without #m2m the basic health services and information needed to protect these babies and their mothers wouldn’t be available. I respect what these woman are doing! They've already reached 10.5+ million women & children in 8 sub-Saharan African countries, and have helped to almost end childhood AIDS among their clients! It was amazing to catch up with @mothers2mothers on a recent trip to #CapeTown #SouthAfrica - my home country. I’ve been a long-time supporter of this amazing charity that champions women’s empowerment and employs HIV-positive women as health workers across 8 African countries. These “Mentor Mothers” are extremely inspiring and help women ensure their babies are born HIV-free, and help whole families to be healthy and happy. On my trip I met Babalwa and Nozi – two of m2m’s oldest Mentor Mothers who now hold management roles - and a whole group of new Mentor Mothers in training. mothers2mothers employed over 1,000 Mentor Mothers and reached over 2.3M new clients in 2017 alone! Mother Nature is deeply invested in breastfeeding & we are uniquely designed to feed our young. Breastmilk provides information, not just nutrition- it’s a complex form of communication that is dependent on the endocrine system, the emotional body, the brain and the physical body. _ Besides the wonderful life long bond & deeply rooted connection you establish with your baby, breastfeeding also encourages the uterus to contract back to its normal size. Breastfeeding can burn up to 600 calories daily- so you need to eat & stay well hydrated to maximize production. From breastfeeding alone you may lose a pound of pregnancy weight every week. Breastfeeding is also linked to lower lower incidences of breast cancer later in life. I’d like to honor the serious challenges that can make it difficult & nearly impossible for some women to manage breastfeeding. These are the result of policy gaps & a culture that doesn’t honor women, the sacred birth process, motherhood or women’s bodies. Some of the manifestations include stress and anxiety, challenges at home or work; extended separation of mother & baby at birth; having to go back to work shortly after birth, difficulty latching that results in pain for the mother and frustration for both mother and baby; & low milk production. These issues also exacerbated by existential stress, PPD, dehydration, & poor diet. Engorgement & improper latching are two of the most common hurdles to comfortable breastfeeding. Many women give up breastfeeding after the first few weeks postpartum due to pain, discomfort & no paid maternity leave. Support and community is key. Having healthy models for breastfeeding and advocates can increase breastfeeding success. #normalizebreastfeeding - this is Anacan 3 months old -
