Nothing better than the big, open walls of #JBay. Fun day today and hoping for some more solid waves this week. Spent the afternoon talking with the girls and crew with @surfersnotstreetchildren, #BrittMerrick, and lots of surf fans. I’ve also been shell hunting and meditating. All these things go together very cohesively at J-Bay. 🙂

Thank you, Saquarema/Brazil. Coming here I didn’t know what to expect but the fanfare and surf and hospitality has been next level from everyone. I wish there was another of me to have more time for everyone. Thanks to @r_arona for looking after me and my crew all week. Thanks to @alekparker for filming it all and @taylorsteele for being my new caddy! A huge thanks to @badboyryry_ for always getting all of us surfers clips and pics from the days. Muito obrigado to the local crew at Barrinha (@raonimonteirooficial, #LeoNeves, etc) for letting me snag a few Off-the-wall like barrels before the event honed in on the spot. That’s an intense crowd and for good reason...the waves were seriously ridiculous! Obrigado #MarcoPolo for the art display representing important moments in my career. Wow! Amazing someone would document my history ins such a way! 🙏🏽 @lucianohuck thanks for the helicopter ride in from the airport. What a way to arrive into Rio! Nice job @filipetoledo on getting me yesterday. That was a fun heat. I’m gonna smash you next time! Haha. Anyway, hope everyone is enjoying the event and although not the best result I really enjoyed the competition which is what it’s all about. Word up. 🤟🏽

Had an epic trip to Bali this year. Thank you Ibu and @komanekaresorts 🙏 for an awesome place to stay near Keramas with great food, fun waves, and warm hospitality. My breakfasts were on point and the massages, pool, and property as a whole was awesome. Also, a huge thanks for @rizaltandjung, @marlon.gerber, @varuntandjung, @bronson_meydi, @elihanneman and @bobhurley for some super fun freesurfs around the island. Missing the warm water and fun waves already. The travel never seems to end. Good and bad problem I guess...mostly good. :)

Fun week in #WA. Thanks to everyone who supported all of us surfers this week in this beautiful part of the world. I didn’t quite find the magic this week but some moments along the way and enjoyed myself a ton. Congrats to @caioibelli for taking out our heat this morning and good luck to the remaining competitors. I hope #TheBox turns it back on for the remainder. Looking forward to being back here again someday soon. Photos @_jackbarripp_ and @badboyryry_ PS... @_max.hansen thanks for letting me beat you and your buddy armwrestling today so I didn’t have to give you my board! Hope the hat and leash make up for a sore arm! 😬😆

Some inspiration going into #TheMorningOfTheFinals at #RipCurlProBellsBeach tomorrow. Thanks for all the support. Good luck to everyone still going. Gonna have to step it up to match the levels guys are laying down but let’s hope for some great waves and conditions overnight. Hope you all get a chance to tune in live at WorldSurfLeague.com or on @wsl app. This is somewhere around my 25th or 26th year competing here. I think I may have only missed one or two years since 1992. Happy to be joining this list of names on finals day. 🤙🏽✌🏽👊🏽🏄🏾🔪

But in all seriousness, it was a blast to dive into old times and celebrate #BellsBeach for the #RipCurlPro. Hope to see everyone down there this Easter at the event. And apologies as I’ve forgotten all of your handles everyone in the crowd gave me to tag today! Thanks for the group shot.

Quick surf yesterday morning. More board testing. So, there is no shortage of critics of all things pro surfing so before that starts for the year, what is it you’re looking forward to or love about the @wsl tour. I can’t wait to see the levels this year and get back into the flow of surfing heats and hopefully start smashing all these kids! 😅🏄🏾👊🏽 Oh, and I’m also working on a little documentary series of the year ahead. Let’s have some fun!

Working out which board(s) for which conditions and thruster vs quad. Can you tell which waves are on which fin setup? PS...last two waves are on a thruster.

I was fortunate enough to be invited to NZ this week for a member/guest tourney at #taraitigolfclub. What a beautiful part of the world and even more reason to find myself, like everyone, in shock the past two days over the tragedy in #Christchurch. My heart goes out to everyone affected by this horrible, despicable act. With all the beauty on this planet, how do people get so brainwashed and disheartened into thinking that is the answer for them? These people senselessly murdered posed no threat to this man. I hope the community bonds together to comfort each other through this awful event. 🙏🏽

I’m proud and happy to announce @outerknown_womens will be dropping March 12th. We’ve spent over 3 years now refining our process, getting our men’s line in order and understanding what women wanted from the feedback on style and design. Did you know @outerknown was the first and only brand ever to be #FairLaborAssociation certified prior to ever selling a single item of clothing? Another thing we are very proud of is that this women’s line is made up of 100% preferred fibers meaning recycled, regenerated or organically produced fibers • • • To celebrate the launch of @Outerknown_Womens on March 12th, @Outerknown is gifting their entire debut line (17 styles totaling over $2K in retail value) to one lucky winner. Plus two runner-ups will win Outerknown gift cards ($500 and $250) to be used at Outerknown.com. Enter at the link in my bio. Contest is for US residents only and ends March 11th 11:59PM PST. We humans have figured out some strange ways to f up this world. This is insanity. Imagine all the sugar and ingredients contained in these bottles and the effects on our health from that and the plastic containers leaching chemicals. And then there’s the impacts on the land to grow and source all the ingredients. Did you know, in some states in the US it’s illegal to capture rainwater on your own property or even grow food in your yard in some communities because it’s unsightly? But imagine if all these bottled drinks were replaced with rainwater we had at home. I’m not trying to say I’m not a part of this conditioning we’re accustomed to I’m just saying I’m grossed out by it. Maybe it takes seeing this to do something about it. All this eventually flows to the ocean which ends up in fish and bird diets and has further effects on the environment and our health. We don’t have much of an option but to think about it. I wonder what my house would look like if I kept all the garbage I created in a year inside or how long it would take to fill up my whole house so there was no space left to sleep or eat. Has anyone tried that? • • Repost @celestial_ras777

At #SurfRanch for my 47th with some friends with @toddglaser getting barreled in the background right now! • • @outerknown is doing a secret sale for my bday for 20% off with the code BDAY. 20% of the sales from today go to @oceanconservancy. I love the work they do and we have a history of working with them at Outerknown. So for my birthday, I’d love to raise some extra funds for them and give another day of discounts to our customers. • • And a huge thanks for the support and love everyone’s been showing Outerknown as of late. It’s proof that people understand our goals and respect the mission of using environmentally friendly textiles and fair trade production facilities in our supply chain. We were the first ever brand to be Fair Trade Labor certified before selling a single item of clothing and the quickest brand to ever do it through official channels. Help get the word out to understand where your clothes come from and who makes them. Anyway...enough of my rant. Enjoy your (my?) day! 😀 ✌🏽🏄🏽‍♂️

Spent last night talking story with these guys... @thomasvictorcarroll and #DaneKealoha. Andy’s always hanging around at my place, too. Good to see Dane really itching to surf and ready for action once he gets his neck sorted out. Tom’s a bionic man with a new knee and ready for whatever the ocean throws at him. Dane was laughing at how they used to call Tom ‘Tommy Gun’ and Tom and I were recounting all our Dane stories from years ago! Check the video clip, too. Dane’s story needs to be told and I think we’re gonna start working on that. I met these guys both in 1982 when I was 10 years old and still have their autographs from that day. It’s taken me a couple days to even want to think about it. Chris Brown and I were nearly inseparable as teenagers. This guy was just such an excited, happy light in my childhood. He introduced me to #AlMerrick and @cisurfboards. My brother and I stayed with Chris and his family on the Mesa in SB a couple summers and traveled to Mexico, Australia, England, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and beyond with Chris and his dad, Dave. We used to sit in his house and just goof off all day listening to his brother play every heavy metal song we knew on his guitar. The day I got my first Al shape when I was 16, Chris and I drove back and forth twice in the same day to Lompoc to surf cause SB had no waves. We’d listen to GnR in his brown truck. He used to mess with #JoshBradury when Josh would follow us in his car by waiting at a turn signal, pretending his car had something wrong with it, even getting out to check the engine, until the light was very yellow and then jump in and take off, leaving Josh stuck for another light! Haha. Chris and I shaped a board together in his parent’s backyard, each shaping a rail. Being from the east coast and riding @matt_kechele shapes, I had thick, rounded rails while Chris had been schooled on the finer, precision rails that worked well at Rincon. When we finally felt the board we laughed and decided we had to have Chris reshape mine down to feel like his rail. He actually won a #PSAA event on that board cause Al was gone for a month somewhere and he had broken his favorite board. I felt a huge sense of pride that he had competed on that thing. Chris, Sean, and I made ourselves wooden boards to ride the ice plant down the Mesa in front of his house. I guess the waves were so flat all summer we had no better ideas. We would skate down the steep hills to the Channel Islands shop to pass time when there was nothing else to do. It was so exciting being from the east coast, knowing Chris, and then getting to know the Channel Islands family. It was truly li

@shanedorian and I trying to simulate drowning each other in a controlled environment with @mark__visser showing us the ropes of the @theoceanwarrior course he has developed through years of working with military and free divers. It’s very surf specific to show you how to relax in stressful situations without the help of fins or masks, how to trust your training and oxygen levels during long hold downs and bad beatings, and a long list of other simple to follow instructions you can study and train online with a partner or a few friends. Good holiday gift. Thanks to Mark for giving us a starting point to understand all this stuff better. Coupled with Shane’s inflatable tech, your chances of drowning are about as minimized as can be in big surf. Thanks to everyone gathering intel on water safety allows surfers to push their personal boundaries and ride the biggest waves on earth. It’s been a sight to see the past decade and doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.

I just want to say congrats on an incredible year and for pushing surfing to where it’s at, @filipetoledo. If anyone on tour is a magician, this guy is. He’s probably the fastest surfer to ever live and he’s just getting better which is a real problem for anyone trying to win titles for the next 20 years. He’s humble, talented, and wants to be the best. I’ve enjoyed watching this guy do the impossible since he seemingly came out of nowhere to smoke the world’s best juniors at Huntington when he was 15 or 16 years old. I’m a fan. Thanks for the battle yesterday. I feel your pain with the loss of year long battle but I know you’ll be in that battle and have it go your way many more times. I heard this story about @gerrylopezsurfboards going to Kirra in the 70’s and the guys asking him how he rode the tube so well and he said something to the effect of, ‘Put your front hand in the middle of the barrel in front of you and follow it’. The last 2 days of surfing has been a serious overload! @stephaniegilmore wins her 7th world title at Honolua Bay, @kealakennelly wins the women’s event at Peahi in the biggest Jaws in years before it gets even bigger and called off for the men’s after one heat only to then watch @kai_lenny, @tysimpsonkane, and one or two others tow perfect 60’ barrels while a few guys like @live.fast.die.old paddled just a couple waves. And then today they finished the men at Jaws with @billykemper narrowly edging @kai_lenny out for his third win in 4 years (and a 2nd last year), and @rissmoore10 takes out the finish of the final women’s event of the year at absolutely perfect surf at Honolua over @maliamanuel in the final. I’m tired just from watching. Glad everyone is safe. There was some serious carnage going down. If you haven’t watched it I hope you find a replay. I’ll find a link and put in my bio. Congrats to all and thanks for the show(s)! Maybe Sunset will be back on tomorrow. Crazy week. What was your favorite part of all the action?#AreYouNotEntertained?!

A small snippet to say I’m thankful for more than I can remember, but most of all I’m thankful for my parents taking us to the beach so we could fall in love with surfing so young. I’m thankful for the rights and wrongs, the amazing memories and the ones I wish I could forget, the places traveled to and cultures encountered, the friends alive and those who’ve passed, the legends before us and the kids leading us beyond the now, the opportunity to do things in both work and pleasure that I love, and the chance to stop at any time and put it all in perspective. Thank you to my immediate family and so many other families, friends, work associates, supporters, and to @snoopdogg for reminding us to thank ourselves also! 😀🙏🏽 • I only learned today that #Thanksgiving was first recognized as a federal holiday by Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War in 1863. It was intended to honor the dead and celebrate the friends and family still with us. It became misconstrued along the way when people attached historical inaccuracies and untruths, forgetting or outright ignoring the atrocities committed against Native Americans (and others) while attaching false stories to sugar coat the truth of it all. Let’s remember to reconcile for the wrongdoings while being thankful for what we each have today. Over and out! ✌🏽 #🦃Day

Floridians...are you voting today? Based on which issues as a priority? The future is for the young’ns but in my home state, 75+ year olds outvote the youth 10-to-1. I’d love to see this ballot decided by who’s going to protect the environment first and foremost. It ain’t gonna clean itself and there’s no second planet...yet. In less than two decades from now, there is expected to be a greater volume of garbage in the ocean than fish life. We need to act now and there is no penalty for being overly cautious about our impacts. Florida, in particular, has suffered at the hands of business and political interests ahead of our natural resources...our main attraction. This past Summer and into the Fall, we experienced the worst fish die-offs and algal blooms in memory. Not trying to preach to anyone but please consider who has made these topics a priority when you cast your ballot. We are likely close to a tipping point at this time in history. ✌🏽

We’ll never forget that day, where we were, how we felt. Andy left such an indelible mark on the world. If you’ve got a good Andy Irons story, please share it below. • • • When I found out Andy had passed, I was with a few friends on a beach in Puerto Rico playing with a homeless dog. My manager had the dog rescued and brought to CA where it was adopted by an Orange County surfing family (@griffin_foy). We soon found out she was pregnant, and she gave birth to a healthy litter. There’s a metaphor in there somewhere. Andy and I had some otherworldly connections but I know he had that with a lot of people, sometimes in misunderstood ways. He was a giant personality and presence that we all can’t help but feel the void of. 🙏🏽🤙🏽

Have you ever had #BloodMicroscopy analysis done on yourself or loved ones? Your health, disease markers, inflammation, bacteria levels, viruses, energy, hydration, allergens, etc can all be clearly seen and potentially diagnosed with the help of one of these tests. @kalanimiller and I had them done today. Here is my blood tested two ways. The first three are a dried blood blot test which can tell you current and past health issues. 4-6 pics give you an idea of how to decipher what the pictures are showing. Pic 7 is wet blood. My protein/amino acid levels are a bit low due to not properly assimilating my foods, possibly because of a lack of digestive enzymes. Also my red blood cells are a bit deflated showing I could be more oxygenated and hydrated. Inflammation markers are low. The dried blood shows some former inflammation, possibly chronic in the past but now under control, in the colon/stomach/prostate area. • • • It’s fascinating looking into your blood health magnified 600X or more. It reminds me of looking into outer space at stars and planets and galaxies and ufos all in this finely orchestrated configuration. Find a good microscopist who can evaluate and refer you to someone who’ll help right the wrongs your blood is showing you. It might save your life. ✌🏽☠️😷💉💊🅰️

Available outside North America on November 5th on digital platforms. • • • When we started this project, I had a lot of doubt and fear about how this story would be told and if it made sense to tell at this time. Personal and human stories are always relevant and I’m very proud of what the filmmakers were able to dig out of our collective stories.

I love new socks. When I was a kid, I used the same socks over and over, day after day for school without washing them. I don’t think my mom even knew. They were stinky and dirty. I was always embarrassed to take em off and have smelly feet. I would look in my drawer wishing I had more socks. A couple times we went to get me new shoes and I would take off what I was wearing and they were full of sand and dirt from playing all day and it would spill all over the floor. Thanks for the socks @stancesocks. Much appreciated for clearing that up for me. The little things in life. Anyone got a similar memory?

How easy (or difficult) is it for you to not drink right now for a month including Halloween? It’s Oktoberfest so maybe next month, right? Restraint is a great teacher. My girlfriend hasn’t had a drink in 4 months. I woke up hungover from New Year’s Eve for two days to start 2011 and decided to not have a drink for a year (although I drank a 🍺 the night of the Code Red swell in Tahiti cause I was stressed thinking somebody I knew was gonna die). But I’ve always said you should drink because you’re happy, not to feel better. Thoughts? I like to see @joerogan posting this. Who’s in? ✋🏽#OcSober

Update: Unfortunately, ‘Biff’ was found deceased in Baja. Cause of death was said to be drowning although there is lack of details about how that came about. Thanks to everyone who helped search in any way you might have. Condolences to Biff’s friends and family all around the world. I’ll update again if any more details become available. • A familiar face in our surf world has been missing for nearly two weeks, last seen in Baja Malibu, Mexico on 8/9 driving a silver Volvo station wagon. It really hits home when someone you know goes missing. Please, anyone with any info whatsoever call the numbers on this post and/or leave a message below. Walking through the streets of Tokyo in 2005, I randomly met @realroyce who invited me to watch his brother @roylergracie fight the next night. Unfortunately, Royler ended up on the wrong side of a Kid Yamamoto right hand. That was my first real introduction to MMA. I became a Kid fan and got the chance to meet and talk to him a couple years later in Vegas. He recounted how he dreamt the famous flying knee ko of Kazuyuki Miyata months before it happened and shared a few stories. It’s always cool to meet a legend in their field and exchange a few words. Been looking for this photo for a couple of days and it turned up in my texts today. Thanks for this, @hidavid and @oleemamiller. Losing too many friends and acquaintances the past few years makes it nice to have memories and photographs. ‘Kid’ succumbed to his battle with cancer at age 41 two days ago. • • • RIP Norifumi #KidYamamoto 👊🏽🇯🇵

So about a year ago I got a message from a guy telling me he had this dream where he was talking to me, @tomo_surfboards, #GeorgeGreenough, and one or two more shapers about board design and I told him exactly which dimensions I wanted on a board. He woke up and wrote it all down then shaped this board for me and sent me a message on insta. We’ve since played tag trying to link up and today was the day. Justin Laird (@lairdsurfcraft) dropped me off a 4’11” and a 5’4” he made from his design dream. This was a huge effort and he went out of his way for me which I really appreciated. Just wanted to share a cool little story and send a thank you back to him and his family for sending me a pic of his girls (who also made me a ‘Thank You’ card). Good to meet you and I know it’s cliche but here’s to hoping other people follow their dreams and share the stoke and ideas. Let you know how these ride soon. 🤙🏽🏄🏽‍♂️

It’s an honor to take part supporting the @wsl in announcing prize money pay equality for men and women in surfing. It’s awesome that they’ve taken it upon themselves to step up and make this statement for the collective group. I’m convinced that men want to rule the world to try and impress women! But it’s easier and more flattering to start by treating them as our equals in the workplace. It’ll be interesting to hear people’s comments regarding the topic. I believe it’s a great precedent to set in sports and challenges what has been the norm. My brothers and I were raised predominantly by our mom on a small weekly paycheck so it’s refreshing to set an example as a sport for what should be the norm, and not the exception, in society. #CatchThisWave is the hashtag. Join in the conversation! ✌🏽🏄🏽‍♂️ • • • • After reading comments, people make a lot of valid but, frankly, redundant points about open markets. This isn’t a market dictating who gets paid more for selling goods. This is a choice by the owners of our tour to give equal prize money for equal commitment to the sport and respective careers. Good on ‘em for the gesture and support of the #WomenWhoShred. Maybe anyone who has a problem with it should have to surf against them for rights to an opinion?! 🤷🏽‍♂️👊🏽😀

The S.E.A. Tee. Social. Environmental. Accountability. Sewn, dyed, and made 8 miles from our offices in LA (codename...‘8-Mile Tee’). 100% organic cotton. Comes in 3 styles, 15 colors, 45 options. The production of this shirt saves 71 gallons per tee or 90% of the water used in the making is a conventional cotton t-shirt, which brings me to a larger conversation...the reason we started @outerknown in the first place. This shirt is a perfect example. We wanted to do something different, not for the sake of being different but to do it the right way. Our principles began with a double mission statement, #ForPeopleAndPlanet. People are the ones who make our products...in handpicked, socially-compliant factories around the world where workers are treated like human beings and provided good working conditions and a living wage. This principle has been directly reflected in our slightly higher pricing than what the surf world is used to. The planet part has to do with our production methods and textiles/fabrics we use (such as organic cotton and hemp, recycled nylon-6 from disposed fishing nets, to name a few). Every step of the process is more labor intensive and costlier which we felt was a worthy cause from the outset. So to everyone focused on pricing, there is a direct correlation to doing right by people and planet in our pricing. @outerknown became the first ever brand to be #FairLaborAssociation certified before selling a single article of clothing and also the fastest clothing company ever to do so in 1.5 years. I’m super proud of our team, the clothing we make, and what we have accomplished so far. So here’s a big thank you to everyone who sees the time and dedication that has gone into our products and understands what we are all about. I haven’t posted about this in a while, and I figured it was a good segway into some of the things we’ll be doing in the near future. #SouthFlorida has been inundated with a toxic algae infestation directly tied to the #BigSugar industry. They’re in a state of emergency. Dead manatees, turtles, dolphins, fish, etc. inundating beaches and waterways has become the norm as of late. Some shark migrations have also dwindled offshore. A small snippet from one news article reads....’On issue after issue, regulators, legislators and governors have erred on the side of softening the impact of adverse rules and regulations on cane growers and other powerful and polluting agriculture interests, including cattle operations north of Lake Okeechobee. The sugar industry beat back a voter-approved amendment that would have forced it to pay for cleaning up its own nutrient-rich runoff into the Everglades, instead shifting much of the cost to taxpayers. Etc, etc, etc’. When boats hit manatees they create speed limits and slow zones but when the whole place goes south and everything dies, nobody seems to be doing much to fix it, seemingly due to the players at hand and their power in influencing state government decisions. On a separate issue, The #IndianRiverLagoon system in #CentralFlorida suffers from pesticide runoff, sewage overflows (20M gallons of raw sewage spilled/released into the rivers during Hurricane Irma), and brown algae caused from a number of different sources killing sea grass which feeds and protects manatees, fish, and crustaceans. Oysters, clams, scallops, and fish have been dying en masse for years in water devoid of oxygen that looks more like olive-brown/red chocolate soup. The bloom in the #CocoaBeach area has been going on so long it’s hard to remember the last time our canals and rivers were clear. As kids we ate fish and clams from the rivers. Today, I wouldn’t even think about it. In 2013, 50 dolphins, 111 manatees, and around 300 pelicans died in the Indian River Lagoon. This year looks to be starting with prime conditions for algal blooms earlier in the summer. I’m not sure what the

Love seeing the groms at Surf Ranch! Actually, I love seeing everyone at Surf Ranch, how frothed out and nervous they all get and how much fun they have. Technology should be used for good and for fun. And just to mention a couple other wavemakers are also doing an amazing job with their respective techs. I know some people think it detracts from the natural experience but man-made waves just increases the experience in my opinion. I know here’s a deeper philosophical debate given the nature and freedom of our favorite pastime and the cost of doing things but no matter what you do it’s about the attitude and approach you bring to it. Congrats to @joelparko on an amazing career and showing us all how to carve and smooth it all out. I came to #JBay in 99 when I was off tour and didn’t have a wildcard into the then Billabong Pro. I saw Joel the night before the event and knowing I’d love to surf it, he offered me his wildcard. I’ve always had huge respect for Joel cause that showed me the kind of person he was so also a big thanks and I’ll never forget the gesture. He went on to win the event at 18 years old later that week. I’d first like to say congratulations to Joel for a long and successful career and also for his beautiful family. It was awesome to see his final JBay event as he’s one of the greatest to ever grace its long walls. Here’s to hoping we can get a last heat or two together before the year is out. #CheersParko! On a side note, if anyone took my mention of retiring at the end of next year as any disrespect for Joel’s moment, I‘d like to apologize. I’ve threatened to retire for ten years now and I was feeling inspired by Joel’s announcement was all and really didn’t think about it. ✌🏽

Big week ahead. #SurfRanch finally comes to life for all to see live. The first day i saw a wave on this property I was taken aback. ‘What have we done here and what does it mean for surfing? Is this the best thing ever or is it opening some weird door we can’t shut? Will people love it or hate us for it?’ They all ran through my head in that first minute, slow motion and fast forward working in unison. The debate shall continue on but there is no denying the stoke it gives those who ride it. When I envisioned this idea, I felt it was bigger than one person or company and it should be something everyone has a hand in on some level. Certain individuals stepped up to the plate back in 2006 and others were scared away. To my partners and our team...I thank you for having the original belief to make this a reality in our lifetimes when a lot of people wouldn’t take the risk. Most will never comprehend what it took to put this puzzle together. This was the scariest project I’ve ever been a part of but the rewards are far greater than I had realized they would be. I’m honored that many of the biggest legends of our sport will join the best surfers in the world in venturing to the middle of nowhere to celebrate it all this coming weekend. Thanks to everyone for their ideas, support, and opinions good and bad. I truly hope everyone gets to ride this thing or one of its future versions one day (unless you’re one of those guys who came here to moan about it!😀). ✌🏽 from L-R...Wild Rivers wave pool 1988, Allentown, PA 1985, @fredhemmings Tempe, AZ 1969, and a bunch of Surf Ranch the past few weeks. Has anyone ever spent the day with #BillMurray and not smiled all day? A memorable day in my life.

Had a blast surfing with @drewbrees at #SurfRanch the other day. We even ran a #FleaFlicker on a wave. Besides being a legend in his sport, this guy is an all-around good dude and positive influence on everyone around him. We got him in the tube and shredding by the afternoon. One of my favorite days ever at the property.

Meanwhile at #SurfRanch, last wave of the day. Slightly onshore half of the time today. Water low 70’s. #LegBurners galore while counting how many off the tops we could amass. Thanks @toddglaser and @hargrave for the audible awareness. 14 off-the-tops and I pulled the #ElRollo (channeling @johnny_boy__gomes and @shauntomson from back in the day). This place is too much fun. @wsl

@wmorris4...I’m gonna miss you, buddy. I just received the sad news that #WillyMorris passed away today from undetermined causes. I really loved this guy and looked up to him from a young age. He was @curfuffle’s biggest rival as a teenager. Tom’s dad even named his dog after Willy. He worked at @quiksilver forever and was an incredible fisherman and friend. Sorry not to take another island run with you, my friend. ✌🏽🙏🏽🏄🏽‍♂️🐟

Stop what you’re doin’ and go #CheersMick by watching his last ever heat at the #RipCurlProBellsBeach as a full time touring pro on the @wsl app or worldsurfleague.com right now. He’s paddling out! I’m selfishly 50/50 on this one... @italoferreira is in crazy form and has never won a tour event and if Mick wins this he overtakes myself and @markrichardssurfboards for the most wins at Bells ever. 😀🏄🏽‍♂️ In all seriousness, I do hope Mick wins it, retires with the #YellowJersey and then takes me to his secret Rattlesnake Wave. @stephaniegilmore and @tatiwest are in the women’s final now. The waves are pumping!

#TheOnlyGunYouNeed shirt by @outerknown. A lighthearted take on a heavy subject. Before you jump to conclusions or make assumptions, I grew up shooting guns with my family. By the time I was 10 I could take guns apart and make my own bullets. Our dad had a shotgun rack full of guns in our bedroom from the time we were born. I don’t particularly have an issue with guns, I just like my surfboards better. The debate will probably never end but at least we can have it while we search out better options for responsible firearm access and do our best as a society to keep guns out of the hands of the wrong people while protecting our kids and communities at large. All proceeds from the sale of these shirts go to @everytown who is looking for those answers. ✌🏽🏄🏽‍♂️

#Cymatic(s) is the study of wave phenomena, esp sound, and their visual representations. YouTube it to see the shapes that sounds of differing frequencies will create in sand on a metal plate (if you find the @slaterdesigns logo let me know the Hz frequency). @tomo_surfboards and I had this idea to make a board that fits the ‘vibration’ of a wave in our minds. The minimal amount of board to do the maximum amount of surfing. We chopped the nose off ahead of the rail line you need and went with a pretty wide battail (like the SciFi model). With the added bite of the channels the tail still holds while giving plenty of lift. This edit is from one session at Haleiwa in January. I actually took the board there as a joke that day cause it was too big for what I thought it could handle. I got my best rides earlier that session but this @peterkingphoto clip gives you an idea. This is a four fin 5’3” X 18-5/8 X 2-5/16” X 25.5L. I don’t want to ride anything else right now and everyone who rides it wants to take it off my hands. #SoFunYeah? @firewiresurfboards @travlee

#EddieAikau passed away 40 years ago today. The #hokulea was at Waimea today to mark the occasion. I think the proudest moment of my life was winning the event which carries Eddie’s namesake in 2002. He saved countless lives and inspired infinitely more. Few people have made such profound effects on others in their lifetimes and #EddieWouldGo will always be the big wave surfers’ mantra. If you haven’t seen Hawaiian: The Legend of Eddie Aikau, go watch it. Thank you for your contributions to all of us who came after you, Eddie. #GoneTooSoon

Congrats to @lakeypeterson and @julian_wilson for their wins in yesterday’s #QuikProGoldCoast to kick off the 2018 season (and Julian and @ashley_oh for their firstborn!). Inspired performances. I knew that swell was coming so to say I’m envious of empty Kirra yesterday would be an understatement! But it was great to watch you both win and see all the new talent on tour. @keelyandrew really impressed at Snapper and I think everyone agrees that @griffin_cola was a huge standout in his first event as were @tomashermes and @michaelrodrigues85. It’s gonna be a great @wsl season. Hopefully I can get amongst it sooner than later. ✌🏽And, of course, an added congrats to @acebuchan who nearly stole one for the old guard and the goofies!
