@lenadunham : 5 years ago today, right here on insta, I announced Not That Kind of Girl. Through the process of writing and releasing it I formed some of my deepest bonds and also felt some pretty sharp, and pretty public, pain (btw, I feel I was very before my time and trend setting when it comes to getting dragged on Twitter!? Never say she wasn’t cutting edge...) But most of all, it taught me that I was put on this earth to write. And having a purpose feels pretty good, even when it hurts. I love that I can write even when I’m too sick or sad or unshowered to be in the world, and that it keeps me in the world despite myself. We all have stories that need to be told, but most people never receive the necessary encouragement. Nobody needs permission to be a writer, but it helps. So in honor of this personal holiday, I’ll be donating to @girlswritenow ✏️ so that the next generation of girl scribes can bless us with *their* inner monologues. Meanwhile, I look forward to giving you more of me to do with what you will. I’m very, very grateful.
