@amyschumer : William Esper was a lot of people’s teacher and guide to being a trained actor. But more than that. He made a lot of us who we are, including myself. I loved him. He loved me and that is a gift beyond anything I can describe. He kept it real. Real real. I came in at age 23 complaining that a producer had told me to lose weight. I thought he would be outraged as i was. Instead he said “so lose some weight” we both laughed. I studied with him for 6 hours a week for 2 years and the following year in his master class. I am so grateful for every second I got to be in his presence. He was honest and generous with his attention. He made us feel safe and seen and there is no teacher I have learned more from. My heart breaks for his family. But I believe they know he will live on in his thousands of students. Alive in each moment of our performances. Sam Rockwell, Jeff Goldblum, Timothy Olyphant, Harold Parrineau, Kathy Bates, Larry David, Tracee Ellis Ross, David Morse and on and on. This picture is from this past sept.
