@chancetherapper : Happy Birthday to a guy who has inspired and guided me long before we ever met. Kenan Thompson, world-class comedian, amazing father & husband, Emmy Award Winner, Godfather of SNL and full blown mentor. From my first visit to Saturday Night Live, when I was just a musical guest, Kenan let me sit in his office every night of the week talking his ear off trying to devise a plan to sneak myself into a sketch 😂😂. It didn’t workout but he effectively made me feel valued and welcome at a prestigious institution in a way that keeps me coming back. From a young age movies like Good Burger, 2 Heads are Better Than None and Mighty Ducks 2 sparked my interest in comedy and showed me its intersection with HipHop. I knew I wanted to write and act in sketch comedy waaaay before SNL, and that started with a television show called All That. The freshness, authenticity and randomness of that show made waves with everyone I knew, and the theme song still gets played in the club. I really want to thank Kenan for everything he’s done in TV and comedy, but I really need to thank him for his guidance over the years and the representative he’s been as a black man, father husband and mentor.
