@kristen.aldridge : This morning I watched a piece of content I had created and put out a few years ago. I hadn’t really watched it since then, but in what should have been an inspiring moment re-visiting something I worked so hard on, instead the perfectionist inside me couldn’t stop thinking about how terrible it was. It’s a brutal yet beautiful reminder that it’s all part of the process of learning, growing, and getting better. There’s an amazing quote by @iraglass that I know my fellow entrepreneurs and creators will resonate with: . “All of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But there is a gap. For the first couple of years you make stuff, it’s just not that good. It’s trying to be good, it has potential, but it’s not. But your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer. And your taste is why your work disappoints you. A lot of people never get past this phase. They quit. Most people I know who do interesting, creative work went through years of this. The most important thing you can do is a lot of work. It is only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap, and your work will be as good as your ambitions. You’ve just gotta fight your way through.” . So keep creating, as painful as it can be. Your first podcast, first video, first song, first design, first book, whatever first it is that you’re creating, it’s probably gonna suck. But just start. And believe in it so much that it starts to get better, until it becomes remarkable. We got this. 💫
