@katiecouric : Today’s #WednesdayWomen is a double header! I wanted to shine a light on not one but two amazing women: Mandognin Bamba and Jodi Beck. Mandognin and Jodi met 10 years ago through @imentororg - which is an organization that has created nearly 30,000 relationships between student and adult mentors who are invested in their academic success. When Mandognin and Jodi first met, Mandognin had just moved to the US from Côte d’Ivoire and barely spoke any English. Jodi and Mandognin were paired together and now, 10 years later, their stories are intricately interwoven. Jodi supported Mandognin while she learned English, during her college application process, when she got a full ride to Queens College, and when she graduated with a degree in political science. Afterwards, Mandognin was able to take Jodi to Africa with her for a month so Jodi could meet her family! After a decade together, there is no way to know either of these women without knowing the unique story between them. It’s the rarest of relationships, which is exactly what makes it so powerful.
