@katiecouric : A 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit Anchorage, Alaska at 8:29 AM local time. The epicenter of the quake was just north of Anchorage which is home to more than 294,000 people. The extent of the damage the quake caused has not been confirmed but there has been major road damage and fear that the after shocks might trigger a tsunami. “It was terrifying. I mean, we’ve had magnitude fives, sixes - we deal with earthquakes all the time and this was the strongest I’ve ever felt and the most terrifying of my life.” said Samuel Shea, the Science Operations Officer at the National Weather Service in Anchorage.
