@katiecouric : My beautiful friend, Jenifer Estess died 15 years ago today of ALS. She was 40 years old. She was talented, vibrant, hilarious and an all around spectacular human being. She was the founder of @nakedangelsnyc a Manhattan theatre company that included legendary performers like @sarahjessicaparker @benstiller @marissatomei_id among others. Jenifer was told she had ALS when she was 35 and to “max out her credit cards.” That was unacceptable, so Jenifer, along with her extraordinary sisters, Valerie and Meredith started @projectals to support critical research for ALS (which will benefit patients with a whole host of neurological diseases as well.) 93 million dollars later, @projectals continues to work tirelessly to find new drugs that will slow the progress of this horrific and cruel disease and one day (hopefully🙏🏻) cure it altogether. I was honored to write the forward of Valerie’s book #talesfromthebed and am grateful to call the Estess sisters my friends. Today we celebrated Jenifer with her favorite #barneygreengrass delicacies and wished she were there.
