@katiecouric : Let’s celebrate the one and only Penny Marshall who died yesterday at the age of 75. When you think about it, Penny helped shape our views re: working women as the hilarious Laverne DeFazio on Laverne & Shirley. (“Give us any chance we’ll take it, give us any rule we’ll break it...we’re gonna make our dreams come true...”) She was not only an icon on the small screen, but was also a trailblazer for women directors. The first film she directed was Jumpin’ Jack Flash starring Whoopi Goldberg - and she went on to direct classics like Big, Awakenings (which became the second ever Best Picture nominee directed by a woman!!) Riding in Cars with Boys, and A League of Their Own. Thank you for all the laughs, Penny. And for all your incredible work. And for breaking barriers.
