@katiecouric : For today’s #WednesdayWomen, I wanted you all to know more about the woman who started @thistlefarms - the company I featured for one of the #giftsthatgiveback series! Reverend @beccastevens is an author, speaker, priest, social entrepreneur, founder, and president of @thistlefarms. She opened Thistle Farms first recovery home in 1997. Her vision was to create a community where women could heal from years of trafficking, addiction, prostitution and the violence of life on the streets. She quickly realized providing a safe space for women to heal wasn’t enough - these women needed a way to become financially self sufficient. So Becca and the residents started making candles and body balms in a church kitchen to help the survivors gain work experience and a steady income. Twenty one years later, @thistlefarms has evolved into a full fledged business that employs over 1,300 women worldwide. Their housing program has space for 210 women to heal and 82% of survivors in their program remain sober. How awesome is Becca?
