@katiecouric : This is Emma Grace Findley and her mother Kari Rhinehart. Emma Grace died in 2014 when she was 13 of glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer. Kari and Emma Grace were featured in an article in the @nytimes over the holidays and I wanted to learn more about them and their story. They are not alone. Since 2008, there have been at least 58 cases of childhood cancer, ranging from Ewing’s sarcoma (a rare bone cancer) to lymphocytic leukemia (at least 15 cases have been reported) in Johnson County, Indiana. There is real concern that this high incidence of childhood cancers can be linked to an old factory that discharged industrial wastewater into a municipal sewer that released harmful chemicals like trichloroethylene (TCE) into the air. TCE, by the way, is a chemical used by as many as four-fifths of the nation's 65,000 dry cleaners as well as about 2,200 factories and other facilities. The Trump administration has indefinitely postponed the proposed bans on risky uses of TCE, leaving as many as 178,000 workers potentially exposed. Dozens of concerned parents have called for a federal investigation of the Environmental Protection Agency by it’s office of the Inspector General into why Johnson County's toxic levels of TCE persists. I will be talking to Kari Rhinehart and Stacie Davidson, two moms who are taking action and want to make sure children across the country are protected. Tune in at 7:30 EST tonight for our conversation on Instagram LIVE. I look forward to hearing your questions and comments. Join me for this important story! #interview #instagramlive
