@bethbehrs : “On September 21, I heard a knock at the side door. It was someone I had never seen before. As soon as I opened the door, the man began asking for help for his horses. I cut him off and explained we were not a shelter and we did not take in owner surrenders. He continued on about how he would not be able to care for them during the winter and he was terrified that if he passed away in the next few months, they would be sent to slaughter. That was when I noticed the tube hanging from his neck. He proceeded to tell me he had cancer and had to start aggressive treatment again. He then started crying. Full on.. crying. This man, who lives ten minutes away, was alone and cared so deeply about his horses that upon potentially facing death, he could only think of placing them somewhere safe. Three days later, @hispees and I visited him and his two horses. We talked for a good hour. We also discovered that because he doesn’t work currently, he keeps getting denied medical care. We told him that if it came down to it, we would give him a job that was easy enough on him physically so he can get his insurance. It is October. Right before winter is the hardest time to take in new animals. Our feed bill doubles in the colder months. We cannot take in another horse until our new barn is built. The only thing we can do is take these two horses in but board them where Loche and Blue are until everything is set here at home base. That would be an extra $1,000 per month - which doesn’t include farrier, vet and dentist. This guy is truly an amazing soul and we want to help him and his horses. We need your help as always.
