@calvinharris : Thank you @hakkasangroup for listening and banning plastic straws from their clubs - might seem like a very inconsequential thing but read the stats below...would love for all the other clubs and bars in America to do the same. 500 million plastic straws are used per day in the USA alone. Thats 175 billion per year. Straws are too small to be easily recycled. They don’t degrade, they photo degrade into smaller and smaller pieces which is ingested by marine life and ends up in our food chain. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. It’s predicted that by 2050 there will be more plastic in our oceans than fish. Thanks to my resident wildlife expert @conormcdphoto for this info and also the inspiration to do what is within my power to make a difference!
