Professor Smith, you encouraged my critical thinking and gave me confidence in my writing. And thus you changed the course of my life. I adore you! #TeachersMatter #USC @USCAnnenberg • I had the good fortune of running into Professor Smith at a restaurant a while back, and we were SO excited to see each other. As he told me how he’s followed my career and been so proud of me, I legitimately got misty-eyed. I was so overwhelmed with excitement and gratitude. To have someone who taught you, who helped you shape yourself, tell you that they’re still actively rooting for you? The impact of a teacher cannot ever be overstated. • A little bit about one of my very best teachers: Christopher H. Smith is a Clinical Professor in the School of Communication at USC's Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, where he teaches poststructuralist theory, cultural studies methods, and media industry studies. His research uses the tools of critical theory and cultural studies to describe and analyze the relationship between economic forces and social formations. • Smith also jointly runs the Media, Economics, and Entrepreneurship program. The goal of M{2e} is to provide insight and conduct actionable discussion about evolving business models for communication and journalism. As co-director of the program, Smith has successfully led a department-wide effort to make economic literacy and entrepreneurial acumen a cornerstone of the USC Annenberg experience. During the course of his work with M{2e}, Smith also founded the Women's Leadership Society, the first professional development organization of its kind at the school. (full bio online @USCAnnenberg.)
