@sophiabush : One of the things that’s rarely mentioned in this current world of “internet success,” and “does-everyone-have-it-figured-out-but-me” self-doubt, is the work behind the work. We have some big things happening @detroitblows. This is a year-and-a-half into our doors being open to the public, and at least that long prior to opening in business development and planning, raising funds, and so many spreadsheets my head still spins when I think about them. • But here we are, loving it still. This feels like passion and purpose. This mission of #equitable #access and #representation for all women lives in our bones. Our commitment to reinvesting funds in women in our community and #femaleentrepreneurs, to start pushing for more #equity in #finance and women’s access to it, has not waned. It’s grown. #Detroit, quite literally, grows. • But ... I just want to be #transparent that this has required long nights, tough decisions, and personal sacrifice. That it isn’t glamorous. It’s not a party. But it’s everything to us. • So to anyone out there building their dream, fighting for their community, trying to raise capital, or having doors slammed in your face ... we see you. We believe in you. Don’t give up. It won’t be easy. It hasn’t been for us either. And when you have a day like this one, and you wrap work on a Saturday night at 10:39pm and had to blow off your pal’s dinner and a few other commitments, just know that more cheers-over-dinner are coming. It’s all worth it. Your vision matters. And even though currently women get small percentages of available financing — and #WOC even less — you have some far-off sisters out here fighting alongside you for parity and representation. You are loved. • And if you’re ever in Detroit, you can come into our salon for a blowout and a hug and high five, anytime. We believe in going #BeyondTheBlowout. We believe in you.
