@sophiabush : Our dear @shannonsedg wrote a book so powerful that’ll it’ll pound your heart like a drum. #ToStopAWarlord is about the collective efforts of traditionally separate verticals — advocacy, finance, activism, philanthropy, and the military of more than one country — who at her behest worked cohesively to bring Joseph Kony to justice. And it is also the story of our brother @ocittid, and his unfathomable experiences at the hands of the LRA. His willingness to relive trauma so that we might collectively shed light on mass atrocity, and avoid genocide in the future, must be recognized with gratitude. • With all of the efforts mentioned above “aiming at the same North Star,” as Shannon puts it, the world was changed for the better. The outcome isn’t perfect yet, but advocacy and change are paths that require long term dedication and patience to be paired with unrelenting commitment and effort. This book is a guide. An inspiration. And a wake up call. Humanity can degrade to the worst version of itself more quickly than any of us would like to admit. But if we refuse to forget the North Star of our collective soul, which in David’s words means knowing that “life isn’t life without a life next to me,” we can turn the ship around and pursue restorative justice and community for all. • David and Shannon, being called a sister to you both is one of the great honors of my life.
