@tayjschilling : I’ve been taking a break from social media recently. I’ve been lucky to spend this summer in the company of people I love, and I hope you have too. But right now in our country people are being separated from their loved ones. My friend Bamby @translatinacoalition told me about Alejandra, a 44-year-old transgender woman from El Salvador who is being detained at the the U.S.-Mexico border and denied this most basic human need. After fighting for the rights of trans people in El Salvador as an activist for over a decade, Alejandra finally had to flee to escape persecution on the basis of her transgender identity. She requested asylum at the U.S.-Mexico border in November 2017 but has been held in immigration detention by ICE ever since.
