@lavernecox : We have so much to learn from black women in general and particularly black women of this generation and before. This connected to me deeply today because with race I knew it was everyone else's problem growing up but I didn't know that about gender. I thought I was some how defective and wrong because I was treated as less than because I was so feminine growing up. I would add that the structural nature of racism, sexism, transphobia, ableism etc becomes the problem of those oppressed by these systems. But I think what #DiahannCarroll is saying here is that they can oppress or colonize you in the world but in the face of that your spirit need not be colonized.
