@lavernecox : Last night the living legend #CicelyTyson received an honorary Oscar. 45 years ago she was nominated for a Best Actress in a leading role Oscar for the film "Sounder." Interestingly Diana Ross was also nominated that year for Best Actress. It was only the 2nd and 3rd time black women had been so recognized. Liza Minelli won that year for her iconic performance in Cabaret. In 1955 Dorothy Dandridge became the first black woman nominated for a best Actress in a leading role Oscar. In 1940 Hattie McDaniel won a supporting actress Oscar for "Gone With The Wind," the first black actress so honored. Halle Berry is still the only black woman to win a best Actress Oscar. Only 6 other black women have won supporting actress Oscars: Whoopi Goldberg, Jennifer Hudson, Mo'nique, Octavia Spencer, Lupita N'ango, Viola Davis.
