I was the first openly trans woman so honored by the magazine. But 61 years earlier #christinejorgensen was named woman of the year by The Scandinavian Society. When word of Jorgensen's gender transition was leaked to the press in December 1952 she became arguably one of the most famous women in the world in 1953 when she returned to America. Jorgensen navigated fame as an openly trans woman at a time when the medical protocol was that trans folks transition and then never disclose our trans status, when being openly trans often meant stigma, ridicule, discrimination, violence and death. Being openly trans to this day often still means all those things. Jorgensen's life is a wonderful blueprint for all of us. Thank you Christine. #TransIsBeautiful #WeWontBeErased #transrightsarehumanrights #tbt
