@mattmcgorry : Mourning dead bigots by pretending like they weren’t responsible for the catastrophic loss of human life is the making of modern-day Confederate statues. # Why don’t we just tell the truth now, and maybe we won’t have to tear those statues down in 50 years? This kind of de-politicization of an actual politician is a privilege afforded to only those who have the privilege to not have family and friends or themselves have been impacted by Bush Sr. (or whoever else’s) bigoted policies and beliefs. # The legacy of ones personality traits should be buried by the marginalized bodies stacked impossibly high from your hateful policies. I saw one quote from one of his friends that “he never hated anyone.” What a gross display of privileged whitewashing. # First meme by me. 2nd, 3rd, 4th from @nyc4revolution # Second clip reposted from @democracynow - “George H.W. Bush died on the eve of World AIDS Day, an irony not lost on many HIV/AIDS activists who remember the 41st president of the United States for his lack of action in the 1990s as the HIV/AIDS crisis raged on. "By the time he left office, about 100,000 people had died of AIDS here in the United States, about more than a million had died globally," recalls Steven Thrasher. The Bush administration also created a refugee camp at Guantanamo Bay in 1991 where Haitian refugees were tested for HIV and sterilized by the U.S. government without their knowledge. This week we focused on Bush's legacy, from Panama to Iraq. Find the coverage at democracynow.org or listen to the podcast from Monday, Dec. 3. #georgehwbush #hiv #aids #lgbt “
