@mattmcgorry : From @chenchenwrites . I echo this to anyone who is part of a privileged group that claims to be baffled but what to do and how to help. Start reading. Start googling. I keep hearing men proclaiming to be confused by how to date in the “#MeToo era.” If we committed to reading books and googling articles by women (and especially women of color) about feminism how to end rape culture, and sexual violence, we would find the answers we are looking for. We can follow and repost the voices of the marginalized on this very issues. But for all of this to happen, we first have to accept that there are things outside of our first-person experience that we don’t have a full understanding of. And as white people, and/or men, we have to be willing to listen to and value the voices we are taught to devalue. If you only expect to learn from men and especially white men (consciously or not), we will never be able to learn about other people’s lives, and in turn our own unexamined perspectives that we hold to be objective and unbiased. It’s time to wake up.
