We still put our faith in these systems because we’ve built nothing else to lean on and when we do try to build it’s quickly burned to the ground in front of us. • Someone snatches our purse or one of our relatives has a mental breakdown and we don’t know what to do? We call the cops. We keep calling the cops hoping for a different outcome as if hundreds of years of them proving to us that their original names - Nigger Hunters isn’t just as valid today as it was then. So we rely on them to save us. Like finding/arresting the white man who is responsible for this 7-year-olds murder will somehow mean justice. As if him rotting in a cell will help her see her 8th birthday. We cling to that because its all we think we have. • Its so much trickier to dismantle racism when its not done only on a reactionary basis. Because that would mean you can’t just wait until something happens to fight or to react. It means you fight always, before a thing happens. It means you never stop building. It means all these white people that say everyday “im listening” are actually pointless. They want to scream about these stories after they happen but do zero work to do more than merely listen or stop these things from happening in the first place. How much longer will you listen to racism? Everyone keeps doing the bare minimum and expecting that to end this. • White parents have the biggest job out of anyone else and they continue to fail. They make sure to flood my DMs with the books they bought their white child about race as if a book is going to stop them from growing up to inflict racial violence. They read books to their child every night before bed about Black people after the child spends the entire day fully submerged in their white privilege.
