@mattmcgorry : @thefatsextherapist : “...a message to all the white women who like & share my content. this is a message to every thin, every able bodied neurotypical, every cis, every hetero, every documented non black person of color. this is a message to anyone who’s never been incarcerated, or done sex work, or been criminalized for their drug use. . the information i offer on this platform feels so revolutionary because it is. this is what political ed feels like. & the reason it feels so painful to unlearn hegemony, but hopeful to imagine a more just future is bc we’re playing with new possibility models together in our imagination. but if that’s the limit to our shift in consciousness, then i’m here to tell you that’s not enough. . as the brilliant audre lorde wrote, “I am not free while any woman is unfree, even when her shackles are very different from my own.” i expand that quote to any PERSON who is unfree. do you get it? our liberation is tied to each other. our struggles are interwoven like a rope. & we cannot achieve fat liberation without black liberation, just ask @chairbreaker. they literally wrote a paper on it for patreon! . all of the words you consume on this page is only useful until the MOMENT you’re willing to DO something with that knowledge. if you’re sitting at work & are worried about ruffling feathers or losing your likeability by raising awareness of an issue - RED ALERT - thats the feeling of being unwilling to give up power. @ihartericka posted a thorough explanation of how white folks retain power by posturing & theorizing their path for liberation without ever really taking the steps to destabilize an oppressive structure. i recommend checking their highlights for more gems. also the book : adrienne marie brown ‘Emergent Strategies’ . if you’re not actually taking steps to use this political education to disrupt the status quo, then you are upholding oppressive systems. share your ideas of what you’d like to see folks with power doing more of. is
