@mattmcgorry : "Dare To Lead" by @BreneBrown # Really loved this one by Brené Brown! Being in leadership positions can be difficult. Oftentimes we unintentionally cause harm because we haven't really dealt with our own issues. This profoundly affects our relationships and the spaces that we are creating and a part of, particularly when there are power dynamics involved (which there almost always are). I found this to be a really helpful resource when it comes to thinking about how to lead in a way that is healthier, happier, and more productive for all people involved. # The parts about perfectionism and how they impact one's capacity to lead were particularly resonant. As Brené says, "Whenever perfectionism is driving, shame is always riding shotgun." So many people have never really addressed their perfectionism and in fact, many believe that it is a positive quality, but it is not...it is very different than "striving for excellence." Thinking of perfectionism as being a cover for shame has been really helpful for me in letting go of this harmful way of being. A way of being that created huge amounts of stress in my life and not only prevented me from being my happiest self, but from being in relationship with others as my highest and best self. Digging into the shame underneath it is critical.
