To adopt Abbie, please email [email protected] #Repost @susiesseniordogs ・・・ (near) HOUSTON, TX: 10 year old Abbie's story is coming from a shelter that SSD posts about frequently - because they are always in a dire situation. Montgomery County Animal Shelter is currently in their peak intake season — almost 900 animals right now. It's a sea of amazing animals who are so lost. Especially so for senior Abbie who has no notes or details or anything that would encourage an adopter to inquire further. The volunteers and staff are working as fast as they can, but the animals keep coming. Abbie was surrendered by her person who no longer wanted her. It's heartbreaking. A shelter volunteer wrote, "Meet Abbie, a 10 year old shepherd mix. She was an owner surrender to MCAS. Everyone says the same thing about Abbie...sweet as sugar, calm disposition, and easygoing. Currently, there are almost 900 animals and the shelter is built to hold somewhere around 430. We’ve had so many days that have been at (or close) to 100 intakes -- in one day. It’s truly overwhelming. A large portion of our community seems unaware to the issue (and happily buys dogs from breeders) and another large portion seems to do nothing but contribute to it. Abbie is a sweet, shaggy girl who clearly hasn’t lived the most glamorous life. But her sweet disposition would tell you otherwise. She’s gentle, friendly and social. She waits patiently at her kennel door, hoping for someone to take her out. She loves to walk on leash and has great manners. She is good with other dogs as she’s been with various kennel mates since arriving. She’s low key, attentive and likes to be pet. Abbie's fluffy coat hides that she’s a bit thin. She is light Heartworm positive, but her treatment is covered by the Heartworm foundation for local adopters and approved rescues! The shelter is not able to do individual transports, and the best way to learn more about her is go in person. B
