@lavernecox : #fbt 1 year ago today Bill de Blasio declared June 22, 2017 Laverne Cox Day in the city of New York. Wow, a year later, it still feels surreal. To everyone out there who has struggled or who is struggling, remember a black trans woman from Mobile, Alabama who grew up poor, who has experienced harassment and violence of various kinds, who has struggled to love and accept herself has had the largest city in the nation declare a day in her honor. It is my wish that this gives you hope that anything is possible. I, for one, need to believe that in these most troubled of times we can pull ourselves out of the horrors we are inflicting on ourselves and each other and come to a place of love, empathy and just basic human decency.
