Peace xx #Regram from @rashidajones: Also, it’s #NationalSunglassesDay, which is a perfect time to talk more about compassion. I was lucky enough to see Pema Chodron and Gregg Boyle in conversation last weekend and they talked about the notion of vicinity. How compassion and kinship and REAL change comes from connecting one-on-one with people you wouldn’t meet or know otherwise. Personally, I think everyone is entitled to be treated with humanity and that we should elect leaders to uphold that. But I am so saddened by the hate, vitriol, dehumanization, fear and anger that dominates social media/news cycle from EVERY side, EVERY political perspective. We need to cut through this. With kindness, listening and a willingness to grow. It’s hard right now. But we need something to balance the negative. WE NEED TO CREATE LIGHT. Even if you can’t find light in people you consider too hateful, try to find an access point with someone where you DO think you can connect. Share and relish in stories where people treat each other with respect. And create your own stories. There has to be humanity in all of us, right? I’m gonna try and practice this.
