Please check out her story and help if you can! In her own words," Hello!! My name is Leslie Grace and I teach art to kindergarten - 8th graders in a neighborhood school in South Philadelphia. I built the program up from scratch all through fundraising, hustling, and begging! Before I was hired there my students did not have art, in fact the school did not have art for about 10-15 years. I brought the program to life and my inner city kiddos are amazing and thriving in the art room! I have been teaching art for 15 years. 5 of those years have been here at Nebinger. I also teach one class as an adjunct professor at University of the Arts teaching student elementary methods and program design in art education. I also work photo jobs during the summer to make extra money. On average I spend about $3,000 out of pocket a year on consumable art materials. I work hard to keep art teachers in the city connected, as we are often isolated in our schools, so I founded the Philadelphia Art Teachers Alliance (www.philadelphiaartteachersalliance.com)... We meet once a month to collaborate, share lessons, sand support each other with advice on classroom issues. In addition I am an active board member of the Pennsylvania Art Education Association and am the upcoming president elect of that organization. As you can see, I am fully dedicated to my role in art education and advocating for the arts in our schools.
