My name is Jackie, and I teach kindergarten in Boston. All of my students are English language learners, and many are newcomers to the country. Our school is considered a turnaround school, which means it is under-performing, and lacks finds and resources to adequately serve our students. All 400+ students in my school receive free breakfast and lunch based on their income levels. I feel so fortunate to be a teacher for these amazing students ...especially in today’s climate. Not only am I responsible for educating our young people, but also for supporting their families as they navigate a city new to them.
