@lavernecox : One of the most painful things I have witnessed is seeing my trans siblings disparage our nonbinary siblings. It truly breaks my heart. I have learned that whenever I feel the need to disparage, demean or make fun of someone else there is something about myself, my own insecurities, internalized shame I must get curious about and process. Again we cannot allow structural oppression to pit us against each other. Nonbinary people are not a threat to the well being of binary identified trans people. It might feel confusing as categories seem to constantly be expanding. But they aren't, we are just finally starting to acknowledge folks who have always been here, that previous categories and language have left out. Gender equity means all of us. It's not always going to be comfortable. But I have learned that when I am uncomfortable that's when I have the potential for the most growth. ... I also have to constantly distinguish for myself the difference between discomfort and feeling unsafe. Being uncomfortable is not the same as being unsafe but it often feels very similar in my body. So I go into fight, flight or freeze mode often when I feel uncomfortable cause my body, my nervous system, experiences it as unsafe. Figuring out what the difference feels like in my body and addressing the past traumas that might conflate the two is crucial to my growth and evolution. For those of us who have experienced lots of trauma, this work is crucial to reduce everything being a trigger. .. Shout out to @alokvmenon on a billboard.
