@karliekloss : I will never forget the first time I met Mr. Valentino, I walked into his atelier in 2008 and was so nervous to be in his presence. He and his team were finishing the fittings for his final Haute Couture show. I remember how foreign yet fascinating everything felt. There was a baby blue dress with tiers of ruffles at the center of the discussion that none of the models could walk in. I had never been in a couture atelier before and was bewildered by the amount of attention devoted to each stitch in each garment with dozens of highly skilled seamstresses. I was a baby-faced 15 year old and Mr Valentino gave me the opportunity to try this divine dress on. I stepped into the center of the atelier, and the flood of foreign accents suddenly went silent. You better believe I walked like my life depended on it. I took each step with confidence and grace, hoping to not fall flat on my face. Without knowing what I was doing, I gave it my all and walked the length of the room, one delicate step at a time. I turned around and looked to Mr. Valentino’s eyes for even a glimmer of approval. I swear you could ACTUALLY hear a pin drop. His handsome tanned face broke into a big smile and he started clapping, the entire room broke into a thunderous sound of joy and relief. I was able to walk in the dress, and I was booked for the show. Mr Valentino (and likely every other person in that room) will never remember that moment in the way I do, as it was just another day for them. But for me, that fitting changed my career. It gave me a confidence knowing that I could wear such a beautiful creation like no one else. I felt special and I felt seen. Backstage at that show, I was a baby surrounded by iconic supermodels and living legends of fashion. All of this is to say, HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR VALENTINO @realmrvalentino ! You continue to be a force in this world, in our industry, and in my life. Thank you for seeing and believing in me before I even did in myself. ❤️ @maisonvalentino
