@tonyhawk : Yesterday was the 20th anniversary of me landing a 900. I appreciate all the accolades and compliments that people shared about that event; it was a highlight of my competitive career. It has since been steeped in false narratives, so here is a factual timeline of my journey to give some perspective: 1985: learned 720’s 1986: tried my first 900 on a ramp in France. Fell on my back. 1986 - 1989: tried it occasionally, never committing to a full spin 1990: Danny Way put one on the wall in the video “Risk It.” He didn’t make it, but showed us that it is possible. 1991-1994: I tried it off and on, learned to spin properly but couldn’t committed to a landing 1995: a few of us (Danny, Tas, Rob Boyce, Giorgio Zattoni) were getting close, so Globe Shoes hosted a “900 challenge” at ASR show, offering $10k for a make. None of us made it. I bounced my shins off the coping on the last attempt. 1996: got more comfortable with the spin, so I committed to landing it at Plan B ramp (as shown in video). Leaned too far forward, broke my rib. 1997: tried to land it for “The End” but was too spooked from my broken rib to commit. 1998: tried it at a few best trick events, as did the aforementioned skaters. Some got close. Our techniques were not secretive; we were all skating together. 1999: ESPN hosted a best trick event at X Games. They chose five skaters based on who had done well in previous best trick events. Those who only tried 900’s at prior events generally didn’t place and therefore didn’t qualify in the overall standings. I had no say or influence over who was invited, nor did anyone close to me work for ESPN at the time. My only plan was to do a varial 720 since I had made one before. I made it early in the event, so chose to try 900’s as time ran out with NO intention of making it at first. My spin was consistent because the ramp was fast, and it finally worked thanks to shifting my weight mid-air to prevent falling forward again. Having the support of my peers and the en
