@katiecouric : Our final stop on our India adventure was Aurangabad where we visited the #elloracaves and #ajanthacaves which are truly extraordinary. This is Cave 16 or #kailasha cave which was carved by Hindus out of Basaltic volcanic rock during the 8th and 9th centuries. It took 200 years, 7-10 generations and the removal of more than 200,000 TONS of rock! The plans were handed down from generation to generation. This video DOES NOT do the place justice. It is a @unesco site but it deserves to be a wonder of the world! 🌍 The detail and precision of the carvings are wonderful. I will put some close-ups in my stories as well as some shots of a Buddhist Temple and Monastery, built in the 7th and 8th century, respectively. Those caves inspired the Hindus and both faiths inspired the Jains. Do you know about that religion? (For another post!) You cannot believe that people with just hammers, chisels and their imaginations, created this magnificent place 1300 years ago. 🇮🇳🙏🏻 #bucketlist PS John jee is an excellent travel companion! 😊❤️ (whoa I feel like I just spotted Marilyn Monroe’s face in this video...anyone else see it? 😏)
