@ijessewilliams : RECIPE FOR AHISTORICAL HAND WRINGING: When occurring in the present: Justify it or dismiss it as anomaly. Both are lazy. Both are dishonest. Once it’s passed: Erase it from the past. BY ALL MEANS, NEVER acknowledge it in our news, schools or entertainment. (We are only our greatest hits while “others” and “enemies” are only their exaggerated failings.) Extract it from our history- mark it with an asterisk; a “yeah, but...” If you NEVER TEACH IT, they’ll never learn it: That’s the play. The designed disadvantage to the oppressed: always be astonished by oppression. Surprise is disorienting and leaves you vulnerable to remixed rationalizations. Generational plausible deniability is a wonderful weapon. Rinse repeat whenever necessary to acquire more land, power, control, etc. Whether astonishment in the face of well established cultural characteristics is feigned or real, it’s part of the plan. If you don’t know how the sausage got made, it’s much easier to get you to eat it. You’ll defend it— you’ll even sell it, with confidence and a smile, loudly. Proudly. And so, we reflexively, avert our collective gaze. We CHOOSE not to witness. “I don’t want to know.” So when the time arises that we’re forced to, on our feed, we can filter it from our bio; call it a freak occurrence. Who benefits from this routine? Heinous, vile behavior against non-white people, IS the common denominator, not the anomaly. It is a cultural signifier. Power concedes nothing to the meek. Be strong not weak.
