@sophiabush : This is why social distancing MATTERS. This life and death. People are confused because of testing results and reporting numbers. The most accurate testing data is coming out of South Korea right now because they have broad testing, whereas in Italy they are only testing those with symptoms. Look at the data differential between SK + Italy. Young people are most likely to be carriers and be largely asymptomatic, and then infect older people who will die. But younger people are dying too. Italy had 386 deaths today. TODAY. In one day. Their healthcare system is completely overwhelmed, there are not enough ventilators, not enough masks for healthcare workers, and we are on track to mirror their numbers if we do not make drastic changes IMMEDIATELY. • This is not an overreaction. I say this as someone who cares about all of you, whose entire extended family is on lockdown Italy, whose father is 72 and has sever asthma (and is thus immuno-compromised), and who has a history of my own serious upper respiratory issues due to my lifelong asthma (and is thus ALSO immunocompromised). So if you think you don’t know anyone who this could effect, I ask you to think of your neighbors. And if for some reason — that is beyond my ability to reason — that doesn’t work? Well, Hail Mary here, but maybe think of me? My Dad? If we personalize this to you and you’ll consider staying home, so that the folks who absolutely cannot stay home — healthcare workers, food service folks, etc — can have a better shot at avoiding this? Then great. Consider it personal. This is the week we either slow this beast down, or it becomes a runaway train. Please take care of yourselves.
