@lupitanyongo : Special night celebrating @IAmRuthECarter, the remarkable costume designer for #BlackPanther, being named @WSJMag’s Design Innovator for 2018. She is a force, and I wanted to share what I had to say about her with all of you Wakandans here! When Ryan Coogler and Marvel first assembled the cast and a crew who would bring #BlackPanther to life on the big screen, none of us quite understood how Wakanda would look and feel, how its technology would function, what languages its people would speak or what sort of clothing its people would wear. Wakanda and its vast supply of vibranium was the perfect vehicle for Ruth Carter's talents as costume designer. The role called on her to draw deeply from the continent’s ancient past, its contemporary present, and to research overlooked corners of its culture so that she could project a new version set in a fantastical future — an idyllic society that has figured out the dynamics around gender and power and natural resources. Ruth, like the women of Wakanda, you are strong, determined, and on a lifelong journey to make our world a better place. #WakandaForever #WSJInnovators
