@tonyhawk : During the latter part of 2016 and most of 2017, my skating efforts were focused on getting clips for our Birdhouse “Saturdays” video. I was trying to get a mix of new tricks and unique approaches to older ones for my vert segment. One idea was to expand on a [rarely successful] kickflip to 5-0. So I set out to make a kickflip pivot to fakie, knowing that it would be a struggle and I would probably only ever make one in my lifetime. I spent two days incessantly trying this one trick with no success. There were a few close attempts but I didn’t have the confidence to come in backwards when my feet were not in optimal positions. It was wildly frustrating so I gave up and moved on to other trick battles. A few months later, I saw this clip of @noravexplora doing a flawless KF pivot fakie scroll by on my Instagram feed and it got me fired up. She did it with such ease and confidence that it looked like an afterthought. By this time, we were in the final weeks of shooting for Saturdays. I went back to my ramp, inspired by her clip that I had now watched dozens of times. When I finally got my truck on the coping and my feet relatively in the right places, I forced it down the wall knowing - and accepting - of the potential consequences of locking on a pivot to fakie. It finally worked and we got what is (in hindsight) my favorite shot in the video. The last clip is me collapsing in relief - and disbelief - with a lingering gratitude to Nora for the inspiration.
