@oliviamunn : HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the best big sister @mamapeachsb 🎂 My sister Sara is 2 years older than me and was always really fucking cool. We grew up in a military family so we moved around a lot. Every new school we went to she was always the most popular girl within the first week, known for being really smart, gorgeous and confident.😎 When I was 13 we moved to another new school and I had to deal with a group of kids bullying me. It was relentless. One day, about three months into this, I walked around a corner to see this group of about 7 kids walking up to Sara. I instantly backed up and spied from around the corner. They walk up to her and said: “We don’t like your sister. We don’t want her at our school.” Sara replied: “Do you know her?” One of them said: “No. And we don’t want to.” I was waiting for Sara to unleash her wrath upon them (she’s known in our family for verbally tearing to shreds anyone who crosses her- which is probably why she effortlessly graduated magna cum laude from law school). But instead Sara just says: “Ok.” 😧 I was shocked by that vanilla, non-emotional response and so were the bullies. They repeated, this time louder and with more bravado: “We saaaiid we. don’t. like. your. sister.” Sara responds flatly: “Ok” and then turned around and walked away. 😦🤔 I watched the bullies look puzzled and annoyed. I caught up with her and was so upset and asked: “Why didn’t you stand up for me?!” Sara: “Are THEY the reason you’ve been avoiding the hallways and been late to all your classes???” Me: “Yes! I can’t believe you didn’t tell them off! You’re supposed to stand up for me. Why didn’t you?!!” Sara: “Because they don’t matter.” Me: “But—“ Sara: “THEY DON’T MATTER. They don’t know you and they’re assholes. Never explain yourself to an asshole. They don’t deserve anything more than an ‘ok’ from me. But I want you to listen to me very closely...
