@derekhough : This picture was taken just before we experienced a Full Moon Temazcal ceremony. It was very HOT and intense in a transformative way. . . The Temazcal dome symbolizes the womb of Mother Earth. The cleansing copal smoke represents the transmutation of negativity and clearing the physical and energetic bodies. The small rounded doorway is a sacred portal to the womb itself whisking you from one realm of the physical to the inner spiritual world. . . It’s pitch black inside, and gets incredibly hot. The stones or lava rocks in the fire pit are also known as “grandmothers” giving respect to the ancestral lineage. The heat intensifies, making you sweat profusely, re-aquatinting you with your own heart beat. We all sing ancient traditional songs at the top of our lungs while playing drums and maracas. Even if you don’t know the words the act of using your voice, making vibrations and exhaling from your diaphragm creates energy and a powerful release. . . The “Puertas” give respect to each of the four directions, north, south, east and west and the themes they represent. One of the themes is to ask for forgiveness to others and towards yourself. . . Essentially its all about going in to die, leaving the old behind so that you may be re-born and be cleansed when you emerge. Prepared to live in the present and be ready to build a bright future. A powerful and very beautiful ritual.
