@sophiabush : Pals! If you’ve seen my stories this weekend, you know that on JUNE 1ST I joined #TeamByta and started the #30DayNoThrowAway challenge. NOW! They say it takes 29 days to create a new habit. So the goal here is to cultivate the habit of loving on our planet as she should be loved! No more mindlessly using disposable crap that winds up in landfills and oceans. • For the last three days I’ve taken a @mybyta everywhere (like I spent the weekend drinking cocktails at a wedding out of it!) and a big ol’ hydroflask for water. Habit. Happening. Wanna know why this is so important? See below. • Each year over 500 billion single use coffee cups are used and thrown away around the globe • That single use coffee cup, that you have used for less than 15 minutes, will outlast your time on earth (most likely somewhere in a landfill or in an ecosystem) • A LOT OF CUPS end up in the environment, where they become a major pollution hazard • Like most takeaway packaging, the cups are NOT biodegradable and most of them can't be recycled ** even paper cups have a thin layer of plastic lining, which makes recycling difficult ** • How difficult? Well, only 1 per 400 cups gets recycled • Approximately 200 liters of water are used in the production of one disposable coffee cup • The production of one single use coffee cup sends about 0,11 kg of CO2 to the atmosphere • Since you've started reading this article 100.000 cups have gone to landfills! • Y’ALL! We can (and MUST) do better. WILL YOU JOIN ME!? PS. You don’t have to use a Byta (though my bestie invented them so I think they’re extra special) you can use anything you want.
